It's been so wet I haven't been able to get out and do much, so have spent some of the day posting up the above ride.
Sorry there is no blood or guts or photos of me or my bike in compromising positions. I try to avoid that. I came off my push bike coming down Takaka Hill a few years ago when passing a car. I broke 2 ribs and cracked a few more. I couldn't do much for 8 weeks. I don't want a repeat performance. I don't bounce any more.
So here's the link for those who want just a quiet ride and soak up the scenery.

What is the cruising speed of the little NXR? And did you really need that much luggage?

The little NXR cruises along at a ginuine 85kph on the GPS quite happly.
I used everything I took so I suppose I do need it. I just took everything I take when touring on my pushbikes. I figured if I can push it with pedals if I can't do it with a motor, there's some thing wrong. I did have my winter sleeping bag which takes up more room, thermorest and spare clothes in one pannier and a large 2 person tent, small chilly bag with food in, in the other. I had gas cooker, pot, frypan and food inside the top box. I get hungery and cold so may have more food and clothes than most people.
In the end I didn't need the extra fuel and any of the tools which were on the top, but I always like to be prepared.

Maybe the size of the bike just makes it look more loaded than a KTM640A .

That coudld be the case or the shape on the bicycle panniers, being tall and skinny compared to motor bike ones which are low and long.
