Not bad.
I followed a guy tonight who was busy texting someone. Seriously considered taking a photo and emailing it to the fuzz but my new gloves are a bit big to work the blackberry...

Watched a security guard driving his little security guard hatchback texting on his phone this morning. Euro cars tend to have better horns than most cars as standard, as he discovered, almost shitting himself in the process.

I was sitting at the intersection of Strickland Street and Brougham Street one morning on my way to work just before Crimble , and a Mainfreight B train came thru the lights eastbound on Brougham (at least he was on a green light). He was presumably on his way to the Port. Guy driving it had his cellphone up in his left hand, at eye level and was either reading, or sending a text. I shit you not.

Funny how these things all of a sudden become more noticeable now there is a law in place.
Prior to that, we all managed to use a phone without any issues while driving. Well most of us anyway.
I actually find that the hands free is a bigger issue to use than being able to just pick up the phone and answer it.
Not sure that texting is a good option though.

Meh. Most of the bikers I have followed take corners like they are braindead.
If they could figure out "swing out, then turn in" then I imagine they could also txt while riding.
Car driver have the advantage that their car can't fall over on a corner......so they can start txting now.

My mate does in in his quad all the time. I guess everyone just stays the f*ck outta his way or something, coz he's never run anything over yet....which brings up another question, how come you can't use the phone, but ya can use the RT?

Deine Mutter liebt es, mit den Knien Laufwerk.
I get pretty shitty at people on cellphones, Partly due to the law change, but 9/10 they are to preoccupied chatting on their brick, and dont bother to check their mirrors/indicator/etc etc.
I like to either pull up beside them and tap on their window and make a phone motion with my hand then a finger shake like "No! Naughty! :baby:"
But thats just me haha

Umm bullshit, if it wasn't a problem there would not have been a law passed, or do you think passing a law banning the use of cell phones in cas was just for a giggle?
Some of us grew up in an time when phones in cars did not exist and we actually saw some of the stupid accidents that happened after they came in to being, one company I worked for had two reps write off cars while they were on their cellphone the first year they came out, so it not a new issue just more prevalent as every man, his dog, and the cat now have them.

I have been round for a long time too and was there when there was no phones in cars. I also have 2 very good friends in law enforcement. Their comments to me are " for the sake of 3% that cant drive while on a phone we make the laws, that same 3% usually cant drive anyway". From the horse mouth.
In my opinion, we are just as likely to crash eating a hot pie or adjusting the radio station.
I wouldn't call bullshit until i could back it up with more fact than "two reps right off cars". I worked for a company that had 4 crashes in 4 weeks. They were all due to being fuckwits, but i see plenty of companies still employ fuckwits. Go figure!
I use hands free and would have to say i feel less safe with that than i do just picking up the phone. Feels more natural and less diversion involved.

its not tjust the fact that you only have one hand on the wheel. The mere act of having a conversation with someone else diverts your attention from what you should be doing. You can see it when you follow a car where the driver and passneger are having a good conversation the driver wanders over the road, speed variesnot noticing little things happening around etc etc.And you are quite right abbout radios,cd players etc....thet are at least SHORAT events not a ongoing conversation.everyone needs to pay attention ALL the time when driving/riding!!(imho)

A lot of what is wrong with human civilisation today boils down to that logic.

3% that cant drive while on the phone, interesting stat. If the cant drive anyhow then why do they get a licence? That is possibly the better question.
Unfortunately you opinion is not borne out in the crash stats with regards to pies, modern cars and sensible drivers fit remote to the stereo, the issue with hands free is I suspect with many of us due to we (as in a nation) hate speaker phones, I dont know anyone who likes the dam things.
The bigger question is why is it so important we take calls now when 20 years ago we could get on in life without having to be in constant contact with the world? I dont know the answer.

I could agree with you in some respects, but there are certainly laws that we needed to have passed, drunk driving for instance, we (as a species) could not seem to to work out without the need for legislation it was killing folks on the road, I had the pleasure as a child to be driven from Ashburton to Christchurch by a drunk driver, who continued to drink as we travelled, ok the speed limit was a bit lower but we didn't have mandatory seat belts either.
There are certainly some laws created out of necessity, some we would have to agree are stupid.

Bugger me, if I can text from a GSXR 1000 on the move and survive, surely people can use a phone and still drive without running into things!
Nicht wahr?
