I think a few were going camping in there this weekend but you need to give them time, they're probably not back yet to be able to answer.

Is there any way to get in outside the open weekends? We're going to be down that way late Feb & I'd love to cruise in there & camp a night.

Cheers

Try talking to DOC Marlborough office, you may be able to sweet talk them. Access can be gained at other times by "arrangement", ie, hunting permits, mtb access etc. In other words, if they're in a good mood. Try telling them you're hunting rabbits with your wheels. ;)
You can get key from DOC bloke based at Kaikoura, but mum's the word really, they just don't want big groups heading in "out of season".
At this stage the only official open wekend posted for Feb is Waitangi weekend.

I know it was said as a joke but....
Do NOT tell them you are rabbit hunting...they may get the wrong idea...
rabbits are usealy hunted with a .22...
You can NOT take a .22 or air gun onto DOC land..
unless the law has changed.. not heard nothing...

there reason being other than rabbits/tree bears the only
critters that are .22 or air gun size are Native .

In NZ the only place a .22 rimfire & air gun can be used
is on private land... ie farm/ gun club/rifle range,, air gun
your back yard.. the pellet must NOT leave your land..

No worries, I'll take the 22-250 varmint'n iron then ;) Any bunny within 200yds should be scared. Trouble is ya don't get much of a feed off them afterwards :ar15:

Umm i thought the Clarence was managed by a concessionaire whose primary income was hunting trips...
