Hi guys my first post! I've done track days at Hampton Downs and have geared my bike to be almost on the rev limiter in 6th over the start finish there. I'm looking forward to doing an AMC track day at Pukekohe this coming weekend. Assuming it stops raining by then...do I need to adjust my gearing? I'm told the main straight is longer and faster and I wonder if I should go up a tooth on the front sprocket or down a couple on the rear? Or am I being too anal, it's not going to make that much difference and I should just get out there and enjoy myself on a new track! Cheers!!

The back straight of Puke is uber long.
Is your Cagiva a 1000 or 650?
I'd gear a naked thou to around 260km/h on Puke, others with more experience may be able to be of more help.
Have a look at www.gearingcommander.com it might help.
Welcome to the site :niceone:

Back straight is very long but front straight is faster due to entering it at higher speed and its downhill.

Hi Laingholm Biker. You are right, you are just being anal, you should just get out there and have fun with us mere mortals...

nzspokes....you don't know what your talking about...so don't post fucking bullshit!! the front straight is a shitload slow....cock!
answer to the question...stock gearing will be fine...gearing will not be your limiting factor... have heaps of fun!!

If we're talking abour Manfeild, you'd be correct (apart from the downhill bit). But at Puke??? Gotta run spaceshuttle like gearing for the back straight Bro!

If you want to be super anal, gear it up. Pukes straight is so long you may even have time to pop the bike in neutral and put a new front sprocket on while you are moving. It's about 8 miles I think.

The ol domi will do 140mph (calculated of course) at 8k (redline) in top gear. And 100mph up the hill :woohoo:

Me old race car ran 10kph faster on the front straight to the back one. Guess it didnt have the power to weight of modern bikes. It did have the aerodynamics of a brick.

Probably because there was a 150mph Southerly?

To my knowledge all the late 1000cc+ supermentalhyperlowfatbikes are capable of topping 300k down the back straight (after a bow of ice cream and cup of tea before the kink)
I wouldn't expect them to do 300 on the front straight.

Gear it taller than Hamptons otherwise you will be on the limiter for ages

G'day, I run 14/45 at Hampton Downs and 15/46 at Puke on my ZXR400 race bike to give you an idea. For most road bikes I think the standard gearing works out well. I am one of the roving marshalls at the ART days so I will see you there - what group are you riding in? And yes, the weather will be mint!

Back straight in my old RS2000 was boring. At least the bumps on the front kept you awake.
