We know who you are. We're watching."

But back to the point, the entrenched culture of "blame" just fosters a continuation of the same old bollocks and reinforces the "us and them" mentality on both "sides". If you're not willing to make a positive difference to repairing the breach in cultural attitudes, opportunity, education, and simple empathy, then the alternative is not eugenics, murder, assault, arson, or concentration camps. It's been tried. It just makes people nastier.

Much as I'd like to, I can't blame the kids in Featherston.

The problem isn't the kids. They're just a by-product of a society that encourages single parenting as a career option and status symbol. Having whelped, too many young mothers don't really know what to do with their offspring. Kids just curb their carefree lifestyles. The Royal Tavern, local wacky backy, and the Kardashians on TV offer way more excitement than sitting around reading to kids and then making sure that they go to bed at a reasonable hour.

The cut-and-paste machine on Facebook today was waxing eloquently about the difference between kids growing up and kids being raised. There's not a lot of child raising going on in too many New Zealand homes, largely because of a lack of knowledge and commitment. Shooting or incarcerating the offending youths won't start to address this problem.

Remember that it's harder to own a dog then it is to have kids.
