Looking for ideas, I have the above bike, getting it back up to nice condition. Located in Chch. It has a seam split in the seat along one side, is there somewhere I can get it restitched or a place where I can get a seat cover? and also thinking a back pack rack for when I do overnighters..any recommendations?

Kerrys upholstery 5 Hokio Beach Rd Levin do an excellent job, and are very competitively priced. The courier may make it uneconomic, but at least you know one place that will do it and do a great job. I have a soft spot for the FT series, not poplar with some, but awalys appealed to me as an honest well made piece of transport.

Ventura pack rack should be available from any bike shop, they have a lsiting for FT500 so that should be the same http://www.dold.co.nz/products/Ventura/Bike-Pack_System/Bike-Pack_System/Honda.aspx

There's a few people in Chch who do bike seats but I haven't used any, check under car trimmers in the yellow pages and take your pick

a dude in Linwood avenue did my CB400F a couple of years ago. No idea now if he is still there or what. He was an ex motorbike racer too. Will dredge the memory banks. He was located on the east side of Linwood ave, not far from the river.

Thanks Dave, if I can't find anything local i'll certainly give them a call, I have a brother (named Kerry also) in Wgtn so isn't out of the way when I visit. Yes I"m getting rather fond of the FT myself, heard pro's and con's but so far I'm enjoying the challenge she is offering lol

Cheers guys, I'll check it out, I work on the east side so will check out the linwood ave contact recommended. I"ll make it a mission on the next raining weekend to hunt down the pack rack you all have mentioned. Not wasting any more fine days if I can help it. I"m enjoying the FT400 as my first owned bike that I am working on myself. She will be a keeper if for nothing more than sentimental reasons. I'll end up with a nice classic larger bike i'm sure but for now I"m getting rather attached to this old girl. :msn-wink:

Starting issue was resolved today. Roger in Palmers Rd, awesome guy, turns out my wiring wasn't quite accurate, had a sticky brush and paint had seeped into the earth connection. So for a damn reasonable price that is all sorted and it has a new warrant! I"m rapped and looking forward to taking her on the ride to Hurunui tomorrow and meeting you all. Yes it is pretty tidy considering her age. Just need to get a new panel cover over the battery, its currenlty tied on with cable ties, though you can't see it by looking at her. And repair the split in the seat. Also not so sure about the original exhaust. Thinking the baffles may have been taken out of it actually, its kinda noisey lol

It gets me on the road, and the bike is nearly as old as I am and looking better lol even if I did take the pic from her good side!

That's all that really matters eh? :niceone:

...its kinda noisey lol
That's not always a bad thing IMHO. Not too loud for the WOF so it can't be too bad.

Have fun out there... :scooter:

Seat repairs / re-covering - try upholstery yard on Wordsworth St, between Colombo and Durham. Just had DR seat re-profiled & re-covered, tidy work and reasonably priced.
