the tail light wont indicate the rear break activation.
Front break lights it up, back doesn't.
it's most likely the spring attached to the rear brake switch has too much play in it and is not activating the switch. how do i take up the slack?

Picture of your setup? If you pull on the cable past the spring, does the rear brake light then light up?
Mr Shrek should be fixing this for ya?

Possibly a thread and nut to adjust the tension on the spring if that is how it operates. Loosen off the nut, turn the switch to take up the slack, tighten the nut.

I had the same problem. My switch stopped working but it was easy to strip it apart, clean it and reassemble. Works fine now.

As I recall ... the brake light switch is threaded at the top where it is attached to the mounting bracket. There are (usually) two lock nuts holding it in place at the set level. Loosen the lower nut ... then tighten the upper nut. This will raise the height of the switch.

Being prone to lazy as I sometimes am; I'd try a quick squirt of CRC at it first. Sometimes a 30s clean does miracles.

Can you post a pic of the brake light switch. (it will be the thing connected to the bit you pulled to activate the brake light ...)

Sorry FJ.
Had to take out the battery box & tool box to get to the adjustment but have already done it & put it back together so can't get a photo.
