View Full Version : First ever pillion passenger!

:shit: Was having a quiet ride on the BMW through Old North Road, enjoying (not) the wind and getting blown around, when i saw a guy who had broken down on his bike.
So being the hero, I pulled over to see if he was okay. There was no cell phone coverage (of course) so I gave him a lift back to civilization (Rosebank Speedway).
I felt sorry for him - I did warn him that this was my first time carrying a passenger. There was a couple of wobbly moments, I did enjoy the extra weight on the bike, getting less wind buffetting and being flat footed on the bike for the 1st time too!.
I hope he wasn't too frightened by my awesomeness - I am still getting used to the lack of weight going around corners - though it was nicer with him on the back :niceone: I spent the whole time worrying that I was scaring him which kept my mind off how scared I was!
I did get told off by everyone for picking up a stranger, but what else could I do?

Well, actually, he was nice looking! A bit skinny, but not bad for an old fella!

Nah, an older style sports bike and a more mature man in the middle of nowhere

Yeah, it is, isn't it!

I've never carried a passenger on a bike before and I'm not brave enough to try. :(

 hahahaha I was always too scared, but I am a sissy. I can't believe I let a strange man get on the back of my bike.
But, I had to do the right thing.

Good on you! It takes a bit of time to settle with someone on the back doesn't it, but I too enjoy being able to put flat feet on the ground whenever I have a pillion. Well done for helping out and being a heroine for a stranded biker!

Thanks :msn-wink:

He said he hadn't really been a pillion before and he didn't hold on to me - maybe he was worried he would freak me out? I couldn't feel him except for the extra weight

Good on ya! :Punk:

Good on you!

I think I'd feel similarly awkward as the pillion... Where do I put my hands (esp if there's no grab bar)?

First time picking up a stranger and letting him ride behind you? :innocent:

Onya. I used to hate pillions I didn't know that they had to lean for corners, made cornering real interesting. Hope should I get stranded someone such s yourself will come to my rescue.

I think it is more awkward for a man than a woman, being female you just touch people without even thinking that it could be thought of as being threatening or intimidating - yet another advantage of being female  you can hug your friends and even kiss them too.

WOO Rosebank Speedway! Did you stay and watch? I was helping out doing the starting yesterday

Always see a big turn out of bikes there. Good on you for trusting your skills. My first time was up a steep driveway at low speeds on my learners. Wasn't too bad though, didn't notice him on there for the most part. Although if they were someone completely new to motorbikes I would imagine they would make the task alot harder.

Yeah I was there for most of the racing (husband races a sidecar)
Who are you then? (lol) I hang out behind the pits on the go kart track which is where the car or truck is parked. I am always parked there too where I can be close to my bike.

One of the Bagshaws haha, Hayden, usually racing number 55. (haven't had time to clean the bike so I'm on volunteering duties).

Whose your husband?

Oh I know of you ( I know Emma, Chopper's gf) that cute little pink girl is your little sister aye? Man, I love those little kids on their bikes... she got "clotheslined" by the tape didn't she? What a little trouper!
My husband is Dean 22 sidecar, and I am Cat.

Ahh yes :) He hasn't let you hang off the side of his bike yet?:msn-wink:
Yea Lana got the bungy cord around the neck. :( On the bright side she had her 1st wheel stand. She has a sore looking neck aswell, ripped a bit of the skin off (burn mark mainly), lil trooper was first back out for the next race though! We now hold the bungy low enough that it would get caught under their mudguards.

Hahahaha he had given up trying to get me to swing, I want to RIDE the bike and not swing! Hell! I even have 2 swingers lined up if I ever grow some balls! Both Dave and Kyle have said they would swing for me if I do try riding at a practice.
Lana is doing really well and she looks as cute as anything in her black and pink gear!

Dean isn't keen on letting you ride it? Ask Kyle to ride that number 10 beast (that he can't seem to keep the front wheel down out of the gate!). How about having a go on a solo?

Just look at that girls style! She learnt to lean off the side her self and she even tucks her head down along the straights sometimes (must make a difference at a huge 10km/h) :first:

Dean says I can have a go when I am ready, I am waiting for wrist surgery so it is not possible at the moment, and I had thumb surgery the previous season. My left hand is not as good as it should be. :violin: As for solos, I would probably kill myself - I saw Jess's accident and that was pretty horrific!

Lana looks awesome - she will be on a solo before you know it!
