Road vs off-road boots for adventure touring?

Don't think I've seen a thread on this, so a thousand apologies if there has been. Basically, as I start to ride in a more adventure orientated way, I wonder which style of boots is the better option, or if it's down to personal preferences. I come from a street background, so currently use A* SMX-R, which are nice road boots, not waterproof.

Switching to off road type boots (but not full MX boots) would presumably offer more protection in most ways (especially the lower leg, for impact from big bikes and their luggage), but is it too stiff for normal use? Could I wear them for a full day (and day after day) and walk around in them, etc, without wishing to chop my feet off? Yes, all boots have to be worn in, but some (using my road background) like a full race boot, were never meant to be for walking.

i just recently bought full mx boots, and they were stiff and i didn't think i'd be able to change the gears with them.
but after about an hour of using them i got used to them.
they have worn in now so they move more

I got some daytona boots. I think they are the trans open GTX. A great boot for adventure touring. Lots of protection, waterproof as(gore tex), and real comfy straight out of the box. Full leather. I will never get wet feet again. The sidi'd you are looking at are probably more hard core(more mx boot). I sold the 990 adv and now ride the road. My daytona boots are just as good on road or off. The only problem with them is that they are not cheap. But bloody good. Check out the euro websites like biker-land. de.

Ta... been looking and speaking to a mate. Seems Sidi "Rain" means not actually waterproof (go figure) and goretex is the better option.

So he recommended Sidi Adventure Goretex or Forma Adventure. Price difference relates to features obviously.

Original question still stands (and keep opinions coming) on which boot you prefer for the adventure touring (and hopefully why)... :niceone:

Mrs J has a pair of the Forma ATV boots and she's very happy with them, although the inside gusset isn't very high so she gets wet feet on deep river crossings, wouldn't happen if she didn't put her feet down, but thats another story :psst: They seem quite popular among the ADV crowd.
I have some Gaerne ones, like these.....http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/products/591-boots_adventure_riding_dual_sp/5175-gaerne_adventure_dual_sport_bo.aspx . Very comfy and waterproof (so far) and a bit cheaper than the Forma's.
