Having just fitted my rebuilt calipers to my project, I find that the RH caliper is contacting the disc lightly as it is not centred to the disc. It would need to move approx 2mm out from the bike to be about right. The LH one is sweet and as far as I know there is nothing missing or wrongly placed in the axle setup. The discs are replacement ones but are a matching pair and are fitted correctly for L and R on the wheel. Also the fork inners are brand new so assumed to be straight. I am stumped, and wonder if there is something simple I have overlooked? Maybe I should sleep on it and have a midnight epiphany!~ Any help much appreciated!

Possibly the pads? maybe not in the calliper right.

Nope. The caliper is contacting the disc and shouldn't be. has brand new pads, seals and pistons yet to be bled.

So the discs are 'new' - to this bike?

I'd be suspecting something there. Maybe one needs a packer between it and the hub it bolts to. Or the whole wheel assembly needs to be centred properly.

Didin't I tell you? I bought that green and orange one at Planet Honda. Gunna make a good wood splitter outta it!

Yeah they are new to the bike so I am in the process of checking them against the originals. The LHS one is running smack in the middle of that caliper, prob is with the RHS only. Fork and wheel install was perfect with everything sliding into place nicely. I do not think the triple clamps are bent and the fork inners are spanking new. The axle and spacers were easy to fit also. How can the wheels not be centred tho? If the new bearings are driven fully in and the spacers are correct, it must be centred I would have thought. There is a speedo drive on one side and a spacer on the other, no extra washers or owt! Am I missing something?

Ride on up ow! But thanks for the offer, actually would you mind getting a tape or vernier on the discs and give me the overall outside to outside? Mine measures up at 142mm. TIA Al.

Fireplace? Up there in the winter-less north? Pull the other one...
Or do you still use them for cooking on?

I have an inkling mine are bloody offset too, bearings have been changed when I had tyres replaced  I have stuff all clearance on one side of the disc in relation to the other like you!

Grrr, out with the clymer manual to investigate. Here are some scans for you, you can see in fig. 15 the difference between them

My Haynes manual does not specify which side to start from however I removed the wheel and tried carefully tapping the LH bearing outer race. It was seated home already tho as far as I could tell. I have re-installed the wheel and afetr going thru the same procedure I now have the wheel spinning clear of the RH caliper but still not centred like the LH one. I wonder if all the 750's are like this to some degree? I am moving on however and started to fit my HEL brake line kit. But wait! That is not going to be straight forward either as the caliper fitting end only engages by about 1 thread! Can't be arsed starting another thread so will ask HEL directly for their solution. Good thing I have a bike that goes in the meantime!

I'd be looking at each individual part that has changed. ie compare disc offsets of the old and new etc to see if you can work out where the variance is occuring.

I've previoulsy had to pack the caliper with one washer between the fork leg and caliper to get the right position when I've been swapping stuff around, but production matching stuff you shouldn;t.

I have checked the discs and they are all std as is the wheel and spacers. I have decided to ignore offset prob as I believe it must have been like that before.
