Like the man said, what's a good motel to stay, not to far from Ahuriri?

I stay at a place called The Rocks (http://www.therocksmotel.co.nz/) on a regular basis. It's clean & comfy & not too badly priced.

The Blue Water. Right by the marina. It's owned by Rodney Green and is a major sponsor of the the local Hog Poker Run every year, so must be 'bike friendly'...

Thank you gentlemen, madam; I've forwarded your respective advice to the warden / general factotum.
No idea where I'm staying yet, I'll just have to wait and see.

Just as a general query, has anybody ever encountered a bike unfriendly motel?

Thanks to Ocean for the question, and to those who made good recommendations.
I'm planning to head over the "Gentle Annie" and stay for a couple of days.
Will take the reponses into consideration

Depends how you define "friendly". I would not regard a place where the bike had to be beside a main road in full view overnight as bike friendly, whatever the attitude of the owners.
People who let me park the bike out of sight or under cover get marks for "friendly".
People who own bikes themselves get a bonus mark.

I know that often people want to be independent, but there is always chez ours for those that might prefer.
Except for Red Mermaid, but that goes without saying...

Just ask - many will let you use a garage overnight or put you in a unit that has no line of sight from the road. We don't always bother depending on where we are, but have not found anywhere yet that wasn't happy to help us out.

I find it so disappointing when people lack ability to debate issues and have to resort to personal attacks.
Especially as you were so friendly when we did actually meet John.

Stayed here a few times and they are really good and keep an eye on your bike, no matter what state of dishevelment you or your bike are in.

Hawkes Bay folk are all friendly.
I think most moteliers are appreciative of bikes - when we went away over Christmas, I was offered by one place if I wanted them to put my bike in their garage........... and they offer this to all bikers.
Happy holidaying - esp if its now, cause we're having those awesome summer days that we are known for :sunny:

Annies is an excellent place to stay. theyve got sheltered & lock garaged parking for bikes. Had a wicked experience there
all while they made sure my machine was safe.
