So I was perusing the Triumph web site yesterday and noticed that there is a new model Speed Triple in the wings called the Speed Triple R, it comes with Ohlins suspenders front and rear Brembo mono block calipers and different ratios in the gearbox.
This makes my next bike choice a bit more difficult as I also like the look of the Aprillia Touno RSV4 and lookign at the UK price of the Speed Triple R they are NZD $7000 more than the standard Speed Triple, so the Touno looks more and more the bike to go for.

No patriotism these days.$7000 is $7000 and besides the neer 170hp of the Aprillia sounds like fun but the end of the day it will in all honesty come down to what both bikes feel like on a test ride will the (will the the Aprillia have that same addictive low down grunt of the Speed Triple?)

Same dilema for me. I'm not looking to change just yet but I'm starting to eye up options and the Speed R had all the appeal for me except it may be over priced.
The Tuono is no doubt the better performer. Although the Tuono has a shocking tank range with one Tester running out at 90 miles (140km). Best others got was 160km between fills. A friend has one for track days in Oz and confirmed it is the bees knees on track. Even if I had the cash I wouldn't have a bike that can't venture out of sight of a gas station.
It's a hard road finding the perfect ride

It's a hard road finding the perfect rideIm not looking to change just add to the stable so the range isnt a big issue as I will be able to choose horses for courses. At 140 to 160 kays I should still be able to do the Coro loop on a RSV4. The bigger worry for me is the Aprillia's parts availability issue.

Coro Loop (the main one) is 190-200km Thames to Thames, so you would need to fill somewhere. Re parts... af1racing.com will become your bestest friend.

 Never bothered to think about fuel around the loop... but then I have a decent tank range.
If you're still concerned re parts, and haven't even bought the bike... go read other threads on KB (well, you probably have, but why on earth you still want one puzzles me)

I seriously considered the Tuono, but decided to stick with the Triple a little longer. Fuel range, seat comfort is sad, but the deciding factor was the lack of Aprilia warranty support.
According to the sales rep, it's all good now though!

So AMPS were able to give me a price they look like they are going to be realisticly priced at NZD $23,000 not bad realy will make it easyer to choose the Speed Triple over the Touno.

I'll believe that when I see it! The base model is £1299 dearer than the 675R, which is $22,590 here.
In fact I'll take a punt and pick the base model at $25,500, ABS at $26,500 and launch model at $28,500.

would seriously check out mv agusta brutale, over here in oz are the same price(also check out 675 brutale in the wings(a triple also)).I have just been testing bikes in the form of triumph speed triple 1050 and thruxton, ducati monster 1100evo,mv agusta 920,aprillia tuono, bmw R1200R and F800R but actually ended up buying a moto guzzi griso 1200 se 8v.I lived in N.Z till the age of 32 where i left in '99 and owned a couple of Gpz 900's and a ducati 900 superlight and ducati 600 pantah.I thought the speed triple was a little heavy feeling, though the street triple would probably be better real life,I was within a whisker of bying the mv agusta 1090rr (though the 920 in matt black looks $1m)as it was probably a better bike,BUT i am keeping this bike forever and the tie breaker was in 5yrs time would i be on the mv and see a griso and pine, answer yes, would I over the mv while on the griso probably not, though would know that person had an awesome bike, also remembered what brian barnsley(former owner of hamilton motorcycles(gone too soon r.i.p)) told me (while I owned my superlight) people returned to him regular to trade in their 4's while twins people held on to longer, triples (are they somewhere in between? lol)

Anyone who buys a bike off them is mental - they are the highest priced Triumph dealership in the country and their customer service is non-existent

does it come with ABS?
I'd like a Street Triple R with ABS and Ohlins forks. Ive got the Ohlins shock covered.
BST or Marchesini wheels and monoblocks might be nice. And proper round headlights.

Watch the Marchesini rims... I had them on my KTM... dinged the front one twice... no idea how I managed it

The SPEED Triple R will have switchable ABS - very handy that!
Sat on the Tuono V4 again this week. It is probably too track focused a seating position for road use, whereas the 2011 Speed III is spot on for sporty while still capable of long stinks in the saddle.

So they have improved the gearbox and this will be passed on to the standard model. Bugger for anyone who has just bought a standard one or about too. Best wait. Good excuse for a run-out sale I reckon.

I took it back a week later and asked them wether it had its first service done, Geoff the salesman that sold it to me rang down to the service department and asked the guy to look on their system to see if it had its service done, long story short it had not had its first service so Geoff said ok I will get its service done I also asked if it had its dyno run to map the V&H tail pipes but this also had not been done, so they also did that as well which I thought was pretty cool and very good customer service, as none of these things had been disscused a week earlyer when I was signing the dotted line.
