What is the most fun 250 you have ridden? (on the road).
I want to hear from people who have ridden bikes such as:
Road legal motorcross styles bikes like a klx250
2cyl bikes like the Ninja
4cyl bikes like a Hornet or Bandit
V-twins like a VTR250 (I really liked the Hyosungs V-twin engine, very fun bike for long rides and tight corners)
Any thing else you have ridden on the road and had alot of fun with
I've never ridden a cruiser (they don't look fun) but if you reckon they are then suggest that aswell.

Ive ridden all of the above, and many more, and my pick would be any of the 2 stroke 250's.
that also depends on taste too though, some like the dual purpose 250's cos they can slide them a bit more and go offraod as well.
IMO cruisers dont get fun untill at least 800cc - then they can provide you with lots of fun on the right roads.. But thats just my opinion.

Mine was identcal to this one (http://www.4wdparts.co.nz/images/bikes/5885%20Honda%20CRM250.jpg) and I'd own another in a heartbeat (as a second bike to the 12, of course).
I owned the CRM in Welly and I used to visit mates in Upper Hutt all the time. I'd ride through Lower Hutt then at Silverstream I'd jump on the gravel road that runs parallel to SH2 (River Road). 110K's on the gravel, passing the cars on the motorway then jump (literally) back on the tar again at the other end. Choice :niceone:

If you can, read Richard Hammonds write up in the latest Top Gear magazine on his KR1-S. Says it all really.
Had the SA version of the Kr1 (Had S pipes and a few of the bits) so made 57 - 60 hp. Got 24534 KMs of ridding before it metled down. About $4k later it was as good as new and ready for another 24534km's
Having said that it was some of the best km's I've ridden on a bike. Super light at under 130kg's . Loved revs and had a manic top end with real useful power delivery and 1 finger stoppies (these had ZZR1100 front calipers). I rode it to every end of NZ. Was great for giving large CC bikes the hurry up on the twisty stuff and surposidly could pull 210 kmh on the race track striaght.
Worst part was trying to get good rubber for 18 inch rear.
I'd wished I'd kept it rather than trading it on the 748R.

I've been dreaming about an 848 since I started perving at road bikes (and from the hot chick that rides one in "I am number 4").
The 748 isn't as much fun? would imagine a KR1 wouldn't be able to get as low as a Ducati with good rubber? (my old FZR250 couldn't get as low as the Hyosung with a full size frame). The road based 2-strokes are getting rare and older. Enduro/dual purpose 250 2 strokes look like a good idea with some road rubber

Most fun would be NSR250 (of the bikes I have thrashed)
Four stroke, tie between ZXR250C and CBR250RR MC22, both need to be doing a million RPM and handle brilliantly.
Twin = VT250 Spada. The Hyo is gutless and fucking heavy, the EX250/Ninjas are gutless.
Others, Yam SRV250 with epic loud pipes, sounded like I doing 190 when in reality it was doing 80. Sounded hot.
Sadly, all the four stroke 250's are sloooooow. :shifty:

i have always had big 4 strokes but i had a lot of fun on a mates rg250....the thing would cruise along quite happily at 140 in top which was just in the power band.If you want to go 100 ks you have to drop it back a couple of gears...it was insane on a twisty road, hard to ride to keep it on the power but very rewarding when you did.very tight and hilly roads are difficult some clutch work may be required.

Late model 600s will handle better than you and near enough to as well as an RS250 on the road, they also have that power stuff. Which, is kind of nice.

My RMX-250S (250 2-stroke) is a bucket load of fun on the road.
I like the upright riding position of it, along with the 2t power rush :)
Though it'll be going soon, I can't afford to run two road bikes, a trail-bike, and a car.

The 748R is a different ride. The Kr1 pegs would touch sometimes on twisty corners but you can imagine the effect of carrying 80 kg less into a series of tight corners over larger bikes. You also don't have to worry about putting all of it's power down as it won't spin the rear tyre unless it very wet. It's harder to achieve the same level of corner speeds on a heavier bike.
The 748r is probably at it's best on mid radus corners and and the torque spead is very usable. But you need to be going quite a bit quicker for it to be as rewarding as a 2 stroke 250cc.

i could probably count on the fingers of one hand the amount of corners that are more fun on a 250 around here.
wait till you have some more kays under your belt, and take a good 600 for a ride through the twisty stuff and you start coming outta a corner with the front skyward, or the bike a little sideways etc etc, and youll see that the 250s are more fun in the corners nonsense is a fallacy.

Think you misinterpreted what I said (or I didn't say it well enough). When restricted to a 250cc bike, a good handling 250 is more fun for going around corners than a 250 with more straight line speed. I agree 99% of 600's will be more fun that a 250

I was just pulling your twizzle:laugh:
The old 2 t's were relatively light, excellent power to weight, state of the art suspension for the time etc. They honked, more than enough power to get the wheel up out of corners & leave skids in your under cracks. Bikes like the CBR 250 & 400 are really good fun to ride because of the wee dimensions & handling but you have to absolutely cane them everywhere & maintain high corner speeds or tap dance on the gear lever, they don't bite much either. I've lost count of how many RD's, RGV's etc that I have seen looped & bouncing down the road.
Oh well, all good fun in the end. 2 fiddy, 6 hundy they're all a larf.
