At least it's only low decile schools (http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/latest/12690056/fast-track-teachers-programme-praised/1/date/asc/1349498/#thread)... it ain't like they deserve fully qualified teachers.

'Teach First New Zealand and the University of Auckland plan to offer a six week teacher training programme to people who already have degrees'
Maybe if they had a child in their teens would be a plus? 20 year olds will enter the profession and a youth culture amongst teachers will establish
Could be some hotties

At least the fact that a degree is a requirement will weed out the muppets.

All depends on the level and quality of the ongoing professional development that they are then offered. Also the level of students they'd be asked to teach, I can see it being acceptable for new entrants and year 1 classes but any higher than that I just don't see it.

I think it could work, given that you have someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about their subject AND that they get the support and guidance from their colleagues. These 'graduates' are going to be bonded to their school for two years. These are schools that really struggle to get staff too.
There are plenty of qualified teachers out there who can't manage classroom behaviour or teach! Let's not knock this too much before it even gets off the ground.

There are 20 or so newly qualified science teachers from Auckland University who have yet to find work this year... I think it's a money grab from the University to meet a demand that, at least in Auckland, doesn't exist.

If student behaviour in and around the flats and streets of Dunedin is any indication of their worth to society, don't expect too much added value!
Can't brand them all by that of course but it's history that cast the judgement on the box of apples!
Maybe the reverse can be said about one good apple, we shall see then. :shifty:

My main concern is what will happen to those who come out of Uni fully qualified as teachers not getting positions? They have shown their dedication to their chosen profession. It may produce a few wonder teachers, but what about the rest? Yet another waste of cash.

Sad.
I have seen students that have only just completed a course, be recruited back to teach on that same course. No, they were NOT the high achievers who were invited back.
They also have zero practice and experience in the real world environment, which tends to broaden the horizon of knowledge somewhat.
