Same in Wgton. Got out at 7.30am for my usual 100k each way ride, that is usually done at weekends.

BTW one of the things I have been lamenting lately is the lack of decent rides up the Kapiti Coast, seem to have to spend too long amongst SH1 traffic. So the question is, where did you go to avoid the commuters?

I go Piecock, Haywards, Rimutakas and into Banjo land (which is nice and quiet mid week.)

yep figures, you basically have to head east into the wilds. Sooo much quicker for the Hutt riders. But in the weekends you get those that are normally confined to the Wellington Basin heading that way for the lattes and winery tours and to pick up their designer olive oils, hence why you probably find the traffic better mid-week.

I think if you are serious about getting a nice clear ride and with less risks, you go early. !0 or 11am forget it, I'm home usually before midday.

Once they get the gorge reopened I'm thinking of doing the loop, head south to the tukas, up 2 then back over the track and down 1. But the rate of work on the gorge it will be next summer before I do that and I want to wait until the gorge traffic is off the track.

Amen to that. I live on the Track and the amount of traffic is stupid. Coupled with the driving skills on display, I fear for my life every time I go out the gate.
Some people seem to have no idea how to stay on their own side on a winding road. Adding to the merriment, a logging truck lost its load just down the road on Tuesday. God help any poor sod if that lot fell on them...:shit:

yeah, read about that truck losing its load and could only think to thank the stars or whatever that no biker, or other road user for that matter, was near by. I'm picking the extra traffic will weaken the road so expect slipping during the winter. Feel for you.
