Hi All

This is where I will be posting details of the Wellington to Kapiti section of this event. What event you say?

This event

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/145216-Cancer-Society-Ride-Relay-Saturday-3-March-2012

Basically I was hoping that I’d get away from Wellington quite early in the morning ( like 6:00 or 7:00 at the very latest ) but remembering I actually have to ride into town 1st OK .

That will hopefully give people upstream of us more time to enjoy the ride as well. The plan (such as it is) would be to leave Wellington early and ride up to Kapiti to meet up with Sinfull who is doing the Kapiti to Palmy stage (I think) and hand over the ‘batons’ over breakfast and a coffee. (I'm sure you will be welcome to do multiple stages)

Vicki and I will provide breakfast at the handover point – just simple bacon rolls and coffee or something (depends on the weather) so don't get all tricky about it.

Hand over point could be our place in Raumati South (especially if its raining) or Paekakareki Hill Road Look out point (Vicki will take camping stove etc up there to cook breakfast).

This is all a little 'soft' at the moment but it IS going to happen on that day - sign up HERE please.

Hi Paul,

You can confirm me as a starter on 03 March 2012.

I will get the ginny out, if I haven't got another bike by then but I will be there on something.

Confirm the time and place you are leaving from in Wellington and I will go into town from Aotea and start there with you.:chase: :niceone:

Hmmmm bacon !

Think the second hand over point is around Sanson, where i believe the ride splits east and west (if someone would like to confirm and touch bases ?)

I'm thinkin of providing a few snarlers over the hotplate and refreshmints for any who trip up to sanson and back down into Otaki that might like to partake in a feed !

Orrrrrrrr of course if the weather is mint, we could always follow one of the battons further up the line and make it a lunch rather than a brunch ?

The Saddle into Woodville, back though Ballance Rd, Pahiatua track, Shannon, Otaki would eat up another hour or two !

Opps Sorry Paul, bit of a hijack there, who'd be able to tell i aint been on the road for 2 months 3 weeks and 2 hours though aye lol

Yep Sanson is the handover point Bill. Me and Barry (Dogs) will be there hopefully basking in the sun on your arrival :D Baz will head off to Marty in New Plymouth and I'll head up to Napier to handover to John (MSTRS). At this point thinking SH1 to Hunterville (fuel stop if anyone needs it) then over the Gentle Annie into Napier. This may change to the Saddle, Danners, and good old SH50 but I'm certainly leaning towards the Annie. Pace will be moderate and safe so everyone can enjoy what will be an amazing ride and a great cause :soon:

Paul in NZ
13th February 2012, 07:43
Considering the early hour I'm suggesting leaving 7am SHARP gassed up and ready to rock from the Cenotaph (below the beehive). ie Be there 6:30 or so if you want to chat.

Its away from any housing etc and there is some parking.

Route will be up onto Hawkestone st and onto the motorway, up shw1 to Mana, around the Porirua inlet (turning at the roundabout shw1) and then back around to the Paekakareki Hill Rd. Back onto Shw 1 (regroup at the gravel aread in front of Mainline steam) and onto our place for coffee and breakfast for them that needs it.

Happy to take any suggestions but have to be in Kapiti at 8am

Cheers

Hey all, I've moved down to Wellington from Auckland on my wee 250 and I've been scouring the KB for relaxed rides in/around Welly and this is a good opportunity! If the weather is gorgeous, I'd be honoured to join you all.

Please note that I am profoundly Deaf but can lip-read and speak well.

*I'm looking to buy a M109R at some point soon as well so if some of you have some pointers to look out for, feel free to pop a message by.

Thats the inspiration for this ride so wet or fine - hell or high water we will be kicking it off by leaving the Cenotaph (below the beehive) at 7am sharp this satuday morning. We will aim to be back at our place 8am to hand over to the next rider on the Kapiti - Sanson leg.

Vicki and I will turn on some brekkie / coffee etc so please try and let me know if you are coming so we can get in supplies.

If any Kapiti people want to ride down with me - be at my place 5:30 am at the very latest.

I for one , am really looking forward to this weekend.
From meeting up with the guys at Te Kuiti through to a lap or two at the Stadium when we arrive then onto our home for a very late feed of something..home made burgers on the Ba/B?...maybe a beer?
Will be a mammoth ride for some.
All of the associated threads will be printed out on Thursday.

Rehab
27th February 2012, 17:40
Greetings all.

I will be printing all the Cancer Relay threads this Thursday 2nd March. They will then be all bound together into one book of sorts. I'll take it down to Wellington on Friday and it'll go into the baton for it's journey up the country. It'll then be presented along with the other bits and pieces.

The reason I am telling you all this comes to you in two parts:

1) It mightn't be a bad idea to go through any posts you've made and edit or remove anything you don't want to be permanently recorded. I can't think of anything that actually needs changing, but that's up to you. All that we ask is that you don't go crazy and end up changing the past, so to speak, and ruining the flow of the thing.

2) Please feel free to add any further personal messages of support.

Once again, anything that's still in here on Thursday will go to print, and obviously the opposite is true of anything not added to the thread by then. See most of you Saturday.

At the start of the week it report was basically a warning not to go outside unless you were moving stock to higher ground or had gills. Now it merely looks like rain and strong southerlies and if we time it right - not to much of either. Later riders might get a tad damp.

I hear Sanson is now the focus of all the evil weather.

Don't worry though - theres extra Karma points for doing good work on bad days

It was a good ride but the Ginny struggled a bit with the head wind going back into Wellington, My front wheel decided it wanted to step out on me going round the round about at Mana but I managed to keep it upright and stay on board.

Yep, all went smoothly from Wellington to Auckland from the eastern route. I'll blog it later, as I woke up at 0530, got home around 1945, travelled about 860km.

Hardest thing I found was arriving at a handover and the next batch of (fresh) riders wanted to depart immediately

Surprizing aye, bet if i'd turned the bike off at the end of the drive and pushed it in i'da copped an earfull, but ride up the ramp and into the house, she sleeps through it lol

Thanks again to Paul and Vicky for the breakfast to get us warmed up !! Was an honour to be involved as little as my input was
