Yes that was Steve and I at Ohakea with the plug cap problem. By the time we found the problem we were well last and only managed to get up to 4th by the flag. 2 more laps and we'd have got the win I reckon. Photo posted was at Taupo.

That would have been around 93 or 94?. We were the only bucket sidecar to turn up to that meet. They put us in with the big sidecars which were running 50second laps, we were doing 1:00 minute laps

Hey that's pretty awsome, what engine was powering the sidecar and do you know what ever happened to it?

+ the fuel Tony and Jill were going to run at Wanganui until they blew the good engine - CH3NO2.

That wasn't the sidecar with 2 carbs was it? One was on the ignition sidecover, funny as hell.

I remember passing that outfit about 5 times during the race :).

Yes we did have a carb stuck on the ignition cover. That sleeve was originally welded on to mount a waterpump but the pump didn't like the revs from the crank and flew apart . So we stuck a carby on there in the pits for a joke.

I wish! 100cc limit in those days. We made it fast but shit was it fragile. The RM close ratio box was cool tho.

I've been racing since '83 and I can't remember anything RM ever being legal, apart from pistons lately.

I'm thinking he means TS (not RM) close ratio gear box. A common mod to TF bottom ends to get a taller 1st gear. I did it to my TF and thought it was a lot of ballsing around for buggar all gain.
RM internals have never been legal (except for the newer piston rule)

F5 Dave

yeah TS125 was 6 speed & TS100 (and TF) was 5, if I remember correctly, - only reason presumably being the 100 was cheaper.

TF125 was 6 speed also but with the farmer crawler 1st gear hence the swap to the TS 125 ratios.

Well, I remember the suzuki parts sales person commenting that you'd bought a suzuki Rg50 piston & hypotosised that it would have made your Yamaha oversize if that is where it went:laugh:?

I ran a Yamaha piston in my Honda, whilst not illegal, it certainly decided to make a break for it. - out the bottom of the cases & chased by the rod.

What ever happened to the RD? it never showed more than once or so after you guys got it.think it still has the 80cc kit in it [-:. l remember riding it alot. broke a ring and stuffed the cylinder so reported an other cause what ever piston was in it was the biggist you could go. do they worry about just over size engines to much now days? if not it would make it easyer to get out and race again 54-55cc would realy not do much!

l guess if anyone answerd this thay may be looked at as a cheat! should just put everything up 10cc so you can use all the old barrels if you can get piston for it

You should talk to Gavin V and ask him how stuffed his 4 stroke thingy was after it went bang at Tamranui recently and how much it botherd his wallet fixing it ....... about our whole years racing budget is my guess.
