View Full Version : Wellingtonians going to Tokoroa? (Waitangi weekend)

Are there any Wellingtonians that are going to Toke this weekend that may be able to take one or two others with them?
Short notice I know, but....

If you can't get a lift WITH bike(s), we'll have to figure things out as to which bikes to bring down, as there were a few with issues yesterday in Auckland and we're looking at juggling bikes anyway (I can't juggle balls, and think I'll struggle with the weight of bikes, but we'll see), but would find some way of making sure we all get to ride.

Got the whip crack and have to go to my girlfriends family dinner for her bday and her sisters bday so I won't be there. Their family lives overseas and they never see them and I might not have a brolly dolly anymore if I don't go, if you know what I mean. I will make it up to Tokoroa one day this year I hope, it looks like a FANTASTIC track. Looks as fun as Kaitoke and Roys Hill.

On the other hand, I have just got back from the beach, put the tent up Friday nite in the rain, took it down this morning in the rain, fine and sunny in between. Tent dry and packed away for next weekend at Tokoroa. And its our 25th wedding anniversary next weekend as well. No expense spared, air beds, tent, booked a table at Noodle Canteen ( well Ok, you can't book a table at Noodle Canteen, but the menu has been downloaded and printed) and bucket racing. 25 years is silver, so might go the whole hog and get a couple of tins of silver spray from Mitre 10 and do the bike this week. I knew she was a keeper when I met her at Manfeild in 1983.
You and Shorty got a bit to learn about priorities...

Great track. Good toilets. BBQ tables and there is a solidly mounted vice for repairs. Lat year we had no access to the club house, not sure what the story is this year.

I'm sure we'll be able to figure a bike out for you to ride. You'll be in A grade, so won't be overtaking me (who doesn't anyway, unless you mean the kid on the tricycle who can't even walk yet, but he doesn't count, he's been overtaking me for years).

I am getting a pipe kitset from Wobbly and a piston of ebay to rebore the 3 ex port cylinder but it wont make any more power, or power spread than the current single ex port and RS pipe setup unless I can increase the inlet port time area.
256544
Blairs rotary valve design program.
I am looking for 11 bar at 12,250 rpm
256543
But may have to settle for 10.5 bar because of the phyisical limitations on how big I can make the new rotary valve and inlet.
256542
Even so it sure is going to be bigger than the original GP125 hole.

Av smokes em at Tokoroa.
Race 1 Av starts of the back of the grid, works her way through the field and takes the win.
Race 2 Av starts from row one and wins again.
Race 3 Av takes the win after lapping the entire field including the current F4 GP champion.

Sounds like Cully has really got Av's bike running well. He had some drama mid week that required the engine to be stripped again. Only got it back together on Thursday for a recheck on the Dyno. I hear they still had a few issues but the oil slick delay certainly gave them some time to sort out a few problems. But his efforts have been well worth it. Great job mate. I spoke to Av and she was certainly pretty happy. Finally the bike is showing the benefits of good development and a very talented young lady. Great stuff team.:first:

Well I still feel guilty about that oil slick. I hope you are feeling better Mike? And I really hope there is no flack from the kart club. Well it was indeed a very event full meeting. I love that track. Might even be my new favorite. For those that don't know It was my engine that exploded in spectacular fashion leaving all of its oil on the main straight. And lots of hot metal flying in all directions. It let go just on a gear change so 12000ish rpm. I think it was the piston that let go as it was always the weakest link. I will pull it apart tomorrow and take some pics. I am sure there are plenty around as lots of people took photos of its corpse.
Watching Avalon carve up the field was inspiring. Super precise riding and a great engine. Very cool. Well done that young lady. Go the 2 strokes.
I am looking forward to the GP.
Thanks So much Steve. Great weekend and a really relaxed event. Was great to meet so many new people and put names to faces. I so drank to much, but whatever. I had a blast.

It was spectacular.
I hear the people in the "Chook Shed" Timing booth had pieces of shrapnel ringing off the walls as it exploded in a catastrophic mess.
I think Rich said the felt the shrapnel blow past as she went.
There were bits of fried metal all over the show.
My view of it from a far-away flag point was quite crazy, one of those ones where you wish you had a camera because you can't adequately convey the images in your memory.
I just saw this huge plume of smoke erupt from the back of the bike. Poor Brayden was the new guy in the flag box before it and had Hels and I both screaming at him, he didn't know what was going on but those who have seen a good pop before knew it was going to be messy.
I'm still amazed at how big the 'pop' was, by far the biggest and nastiest I've seen.

all the bike needs now is so new tyres and a better rider (lighter):bleh:
Dear AJ,
I hate to shatter your illusions, dearest, but . . .
Str8 was having problems with her carpal tunnel and I'm older than you (I think, 'cause Skunk told me I'm older than everyone) and have a severe lack of talent. (My bike suffers the same as yours, except for the tyres lol).
But it was huge fun and that's what it's about for me. At least this year I didn't stop riding mid-race so I could watch the racing.
Roll on Te Puke, even if it means missing yet more points at Auckland (I've got so many DNF's and DNS's but get good points in F5 as there's not many of us in the grade lol).
Yours sincerely,
the slow old hag on #44

I want to see Rich's video. The camera was still recording after the explosion. It'll be a giggle if we can hear people's comments. Sorry Rich, never good to blow an engine, especially if you are more mature and married, if you know what I mean.
Off topic, who else noticed that Rich has a sort of Elvis Costello thing going on with the hat and stuff?

Just checked it and as I thought I didn't turn it on. Fooooooool. All I know is that I look like such a fat bastard in them photos I am going manorexic. When did I get so old and fat. At least I didn't get beaten buy a girl. I am sure she would have, but hey I'm clinging onto that fact. Well off to through up my dinner and then go for a run.

Baah Humbug to that. It sounds like there were too many tent-poles and not enough rain. Probably the right amount of hangovers though.

Oh bugger, you've now reminded me. I didn't take any photos of the pole-less tent (yes, someone forgot their tent poles). But they had a trailer to put the cover over, so it was all good (plus no rain). - anyone take photos of the mini motard bikes' tents????
Guess it's going to become a tradition - someone has to forget tent poles each round.
Definitely the right amount of hangovers - I was fine as I didn't drink much (this time).

To late Dave the damage is done. It's ok though. I need to get fitter to have any chance of footing it with the skinny kids.

Ruahine wines website is worth looking at. I drive past them twice a week and if you want a change from those up Norf types, let me know and I can bring some to Te Puke.
Will have to pass the Cork Dork test tho...

Mate, if the missus is lap scoring, of course you are going to win from the lap scoring booth.

That port all seems a bit fruity, however if you can find some that passes the cork dork test put me down for a bottle of dealers choice.

If the port starting to loose its appeal, shots on the corner? Te Puke could be the perfect track to start...... Grant to be Lil Jon... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNtTEibFvlQ&ob=av2e

That does look mildly interesting, but alas I could not participate as I am married and the Missus would probably frown upon such goings on as you may soon find out. But yeah, I could be little John with some persuasion.
