I have just bought a 'like new' Qmoto leather jacket. I dont think it has ever been worn. The leather is quite stiff, particualy noticable in the arms.
My first decent leather jacket in probably 30 years. Feels comfortable, just needs wearing in.

What's the best stuff to work into the leather to help soften the material?

I would use Saddle or Neatsfoot oil to soften the leather - then SnoSeal to protect and waterprroof

If he had a Hi-Viz vest on, would that be okay?.

Steve Gurney should'a had one, the train driver might have seen him.

Steve Gurney should'a had one, the train driver might have seen him.If the train driver had one as well it would have helped! Just leave the jacket in the sun to heat it up then put some waterproof leather stuff on it. Mr qmoto will tell you what to use if you ask. Quite a few products out there that do the same thing.

I like to think the train driver aimed for him......

play with the kids under the sprinkler with it on then go for a ride in the hot summer sun. I didn't actually do anything with my leather stuff. Just wore it. Probably why the jacket is more flexible than the pants. I wear the jacket more.

there are some excellent natural products around these days. You can just rub in Olive oil.. it IS natural and will soften the leather after a couple of applications. I used to use saddle oil etc and was given that heads up by a Saddler down in Invegumboot.

this is the one I use...... http://www.beekind.co.nz/products/Bee-Kind-%252d-Beeswax-Leather-Polish-%26-Deep-Conditioner-with-Tea-Tree-%26-Eucalyptus.html

The BeesKind link gives some good background advice, regarding the effect of silicon's. I will chase it up.

take it on a 24 hour bender. Leave the keys with the missus. In the morning (or afternoon?) wipe the rum, beer, lamb fat, and tomato sauce leftovers Off with a clean soft cloth, then take it for a ride. Hey Presto. Ready.

Bah. Real men never clean their gears. Get a boxing bag and spend 20 mins everyday for a week practising your commuting^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H boxing styles. It'll be sweet. Alternatively HTFU :Punk:

wouldnt you not want to soften the leather? would that not adversely affect is abraision resistance? ive only just bought a new Alpinestars leather jacket so would be good to know.. :)

Good quality premium leather is generally pretty supple and with brands like Alpinestars/Dainese/Spidi etc you generally won't have that issue. I've had several Dainese and Alpinestars leather jackets and have never had to 'run them in'.
Some of the cheaper brands ex-Pakistan use buffalo hide which is considerably stiffer, in some poor quality cases it's almost like cardboard!

Your jacket shouldn't need any attention until it's been used and cleaned a few times and/or rained on at which point the leather will need reproofing with a beeswax based product as previously listed or SnoSeal/Nixwax which are two of the better brands (still beeswax based).

Personally I prefer a liquid or near liquid goo to put on my leather stuff. Even though I've got a Jap bike, I've been using Harley Davidson branded leather conditioner the last few years. Rub it in, leave it for a bit, then get the Mrs hairdryer and melt the stuff into the pores, or put it out in the sun...but I live in Welly...

I would agree with a previous comment along the lines of the better the brand or garment, the less 'running in' required.

On a similar note, does anyone know if it is possible to stretch the arms of a leather jacket? I'm tall and skinny with long arms, so any jacket that fits my arms is too big everywhere else, and any jacket that fits everywhere else is too short for my arms.
cheers

Bonedry is the best I have used and it's Kiwimade.

Had my gloves and boots done on a rally a few years ago and wouldn't look back.

You must have an...unusual build.

Got any photos of ur parents?

Ah sorry mate. Suspect you will need the help of someone like quasimoto, and get something custom made (or altered at least.)

+1. If the jacket is brand new you wont need to apply conditioner or treatment to it - otherwise the manufacturer would have done it. Just wear it.

Get someone to adjust the jacket properly, or get a custom made jacket. Kerry from MSW on K'Road has an excellent reputation.
