Notice how, when he clocks the bikes that are moving really fast, he is concealed behind a car, and radars the riders from behind, after they have passed, then comments on how fast they are going.
When he radars the cars, to point out that the cars are 'all travelling at, or below the speed limit' that the first shot shows a car over the limit (which is 45mph) and that when radaring the cars, he is standing on the roadside, upright, easily visible, pointing the radar directly at oncoming traffic which can see him, and of course slow down for fear it's a cop.
Fucking journalists.

Bikers do not speed ..
They exceed an illogical and politically biased limit, arbitralily set, and enforced with a monetary based penalty system, publicised by the creation of a media enhanced ... public admonition - ad nauseam. :innocent:

When they do 200km into a blind corner on the wrong side of the road, they still probably wouldnt get it.
Regardless to how they tested to speed and regardless the number of accidents and deaths,
The point of the video was to show that the common speeder and wreckless behaviour from any motor vehicle using that stretch of road was the sportsbike riders, not the cruisers or the tourers or the cars or SUV's,
In either case they set out to make sportsbike riders look like brain dead suicide jockeys, even if they had tested the speed of all the cars and bikes the same, they still showed footage of bikes over taking cars on retarded corners and at retarded speeds.
Which brings what Kitty Kat said, "Perception is everything", There are car enthusiasts here in New Zealand who own souped up cars and belong to customs clubs, they respect their cars and alot of them do the speed limit, they dont attend street racers so on so on, but because some bogan ass knuckle dragging muppet has lowered his sick as honda civic and thinks its hot shit, he has created the perception that all modified cars are owned by irresponsible pot smoking young adults.

the idea that dont worry about the speeding because car drivers do this or that is just plain stupid. Obviously its a sportsbike favoured road and obivously there are some up there who ride it often as fast as they can. 153 is pretty impresive for that stretch of road. Its illegal. they are showcasing its a problem. Its not surprising its happening. And there is not a defence to it. The guys (or girlls ahem pc world) know they are breaking the law. They know the law cant do anything about it. looks like a fun bit of road!

Everyone has different risk profiles. And as a result their are going to be people travelling at all different speeds as they perceive those risks differently. Fortunately thanks to the bell curve there is only a small number that travel drastically over the speed limit on the public road network (or for me, in the really high risk zone). And funnily enough, those risk profiles are often shaped by age and experience, and by the number of times you've badly hurt yourself and/or had someone you know badly hurt (that's the hard way to get experience).
I guess with bikes the difference is you don't need anywhere as much money to be able to get a vehicle that can take you to that point, so you see more extreme examples. If you could buy cars for $5k that could easily and rapidly get to 200km/h you'd see more of them doing it.
For those extreme ends of the scale I agree with the enforcement officers - you wont be able to penalise the behaviour out of existence. If your risk profile is such that travelling drastically over the is acceptable then I doubt any kind of punishment is really going to measure up as "high risk" by comparison.
The trick, IMHO, is to try and educate and install patterns of behaviour through knowledge and leadership in ourselves, and inspire those around us (like mentoring), and to try and get people to understand the consequences of their actions on the people around them (like on their Mums, Dads, partners, etc) and acknowledging that our actions do affect those people. It's not all about "me":
It's one of the reasons I like to help out at NASS (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/wiki/North_Auckland_Street_Skills) - because one day I hope it will keep one more biker around to live one more year of their life. Sure, we all die eventually - but why start early huh?

I have to agree with you...kind of an odd statement swbarnet....kind of like saying "a person doesn't have the rights to not be assaulted, that right should be earned". A bit of an odd thing to say.
The difficulty with defining something as a right is that it often means another person has to give up a right... E.g, one man's 'right' to be safe in a well lit, heavily policed street / neighborhood will necessarily come at the cost of another's 'right' to take home more of the pay she earned to spend on her family...
Take health care for example. Is there a human right to free healthcare? I can summarise the argument (made by some very smart people) as follows: If there is a right to health care, someone has the duty to provide it. This means the Government must take as much money from you and me under threat of coercion as the Govt decides it needs - and even if you are OK with that, the concept also means if the Government decided not to pay health care workers a "fair wage" then if human health care is a right, the Government should be able to make health care workers work for a pittance - otherwise other people may not have "the right to affordable health care".
This does not mean that we should not collect taxes to pay for health care - just as it does not mean we should not collect taxes to pay for police; but it does mean that neither (access to) health care) not (a guarantee of) safety, is a "basic human right".
That IMO is why the Founders of the US were v smart when they said everyone should have the right to pursue happiness - not the right to be happy... We have a right to professional response and good service from doctors, nurses, providers, police, teachers etc paid with tax money; but we don't have a right to be safe, healthy and secure a well paying job.
That's my take on it; of course, YMMV...

Considering that the FOX mantra "fair and balanced" has joke status, I thought the clip was not too bad at all. A lot of the riders were behaving themselves, but as always, the focus was on the minority.
There has been a claim (presumably by a competing channel) that research shows that people who watch FOX News are less well informed than people who don't watch the news at all. So perhaps we shouldn't expect too much?

Not quite how I would put it James, more buy a bike that fits. A gixxer is a great machine, as is an R1 or any of that variant for the purpose it was designed for, so long as you are certain height, body length etc and want to get and off the shelf bike you can take to the track, which is where some of the riders of the Akaroa gp should be taking the bike.

nor is it in any modern sportscar. doesn't make it right.
the best thing i like about it is people who make mistakes at 200+ never do it again.

Not many modern cars are capable of reaching that same speed as quickly though. A 6 cylinder Falcodore will do at least 230kmh but it will take a lot longer to get there than a fast-ish bike.
Those who live to tell the tale will probably end up doing it again.

bullshit. Im 6'1" without shoes on, I'll do 1000km + in a day on an R1 with aftermarket rearsets that lift me feet higher than stock - and I actually find that my body feels better afterwards than it did doing the same ride on a 91 cbr 600 with a fairly upright riding position.

Actually I am fortunate bastard in that I don't have to limit my riding to just the weekends so if I want to head to Akaroa in the middle of the week, when all the weekend warriors aren't around pretending to be Rossi I can :bleh:, oddly I don't want to often as there is little there to excite me.
If you want to have a decent day out why the hell don't you go around the block, oh I know you don't get to sit and have a latte with all the other weekend warriors and brag about how you took that last corner just coming into Barrys Bay cranked right over, plus 600 odd Kms in a day is far to far to ride.
Also there are plenty of nice days to ride in the winter.
i to have plenty of time to ride during the week or also on the weekends, but i dont have time to ride 600ks round "the block" just for the hell of it, a blast to akaroa and back and over the hills thru lyttleton is enough for me to get my fix.. and i drink a flat white not a latte,
and if a ride to akaroa doesnt excite you then you got problems buddy or maybe you should try riding a new bike.. ;-) but hey each to their own. ;-)

They don't like to do that because they find out they're a lot slower than they thought
why would they be slower than they thought.? iv been out the track a few times over the years and yes it is fun, but i wouldnt wanna ride my "road" bike out there anymore, cause chances are thats where id drop it cause you end up pushing it harder and harder than you normally do cause of the no cop, no car, thing that ya have out there.
if i had plenty of money a race bike would be the go, but sadly no everyone can afford that, but thinking just cause someone doesnt ride out the track makes thenm slow is stupid.. and just cause someone rides out the track doesnt make them fast..

heroes of the road usually do find they arent the riding gods they thought they were when they hit the track.
you dont need plenty of money to go to the track, and frankly, its safer than being on the road, you are on the same short circuit over and over again, you know what the condition of the surface will be on the next corner because you went around it less than 2 minutes ago, you have poeple who run around with flags if there is an obstruction, you can use the entire width of the track instead on one lane providing you with wider margins of error, the surfaces tend to be far superior to the road, should I go on?

No problem, done several times. Not all of us are limp wristed coffee drinkers who barely make it through the door of the cafe because our heads have swelled with so much self pride at how awesomely we think we took that last corner on the ONLY road we ever ride because we dont have the skills, or the openness of mind to go and try out new, further afield roads.
But you enjoy your boring, repetitive rides on your boring, normal scheduled life, - why not buy a minivan and have 5 kids while you're at it? - In the meantime, I will continue destroying tyres from sheer volume of kilometers travelled until I have done every road in NZ. Then I will repeat it!

then you might be riding it a tad wrong.
you wanna grip the tank with your thighs (firmly, like your missus does when you're balls deep in her missionary style and she's about to explode) and use your core (tummy) to support your upper body. This takes a lot of weight off your wrists, and makes your grip on the bars a bit looser and will help with the steering a tad.
