I don't like it. It looks like what Kawasaki did to the Z1000, give an old legend a face lift when the style it already had was bloody cool anyway and some people like the old school handling as well.
I reckon it's a waste of a vmax sticker, I would have called it something else IMO.
TonyB

IMO it would look pretty good with a solid colour, like black.

The VMax is a thug, there is no place for delicate little tailpieces on a VMax - you don't make ugly pretty by plucking it's eyebrows.

24th July 2005, 12:18
I agree with TonyB, it'll look cool with a solid colour, maybe the Yamaha Metallic Blue
Doesn't look photoshopped, it's just a customised bike. Pretty tame in camparison to a few other modded bikes

THey customise all sorts, not just the vmax.
Oh and it seems I've received another red rep from the SpankMan, as its not a General Bike item, so he's put it in Sports Bikes and Tourers, but really a Vmax, shouldnt it be in either Sports Bike tuning section or in the Hogs and Cruisers forum, why doesnt it just stay in General Bike stuff? Think I'll red rep him about it, eerrr, if you don't see me for ahile, I may be banned or something..... :devil2:

20 years on, the only good max is one that can be riden fast and surprises sport bike riders.
The challange is laid, whos up for it.
1. Off the lights :motu:
2. top gear roll on :blah:
3. as hard as you can slap your mama to dairy flat and back. :sherlock:

Not undo able but They V-Max only put out 146HP at the crank . Not 165+ like the new 1000's more like a 750 HP now adays

now THAT i like..bet it still handles like a brick though. a Vmax was my first bike our of the service (1987.. brand new) chassis flexed like a handsaw under power, front end felt heavy under the best of conditions, rear suspension was too soft for the torque and had the old "shaft effect" accellerating out of a turn (you old max-ers know what that was like..)
also had the V-Boost though.. felt kinda like a Holly 780 double pump on a BB Ford when it came on.. manic
i ended up swapping the rear shocks with a set of billet steel bars and mated them to a set of gusseted 6 foot wheelie bars (legal in the States in the 80's and 90's.. not sure about now..) 10.5 second quarter mile out of the box, 10.20 with a few tweeks(V&H full kit, 5 degree advance,HOT coils and 9mm wires, rejet.. etc) and fastest ET was a 10 flat on slicks and Turbo Blue race gas.. wish we had some of the technology we have now in the aftermarket.. would have made a huge difference in ET's
Thursday at th local dragstrip was Test N Tune night, fridays were Match Racing nights ( run what you brung..)(Saturdays were NHRA sanctiond events...) used to trailer the Mustang down and tie the 'Max down in the bed of the truck and race all night ( Truck did a 22.7 quarter mile one night..)
legendary bikes man..
What?

Don't like the radiator/oil cooler thing. Looks like it'd reak off first big bump in the road or rough landing wheelie.
But keen as for the 800 more cc, fuel injection and upgraded suspension.

Ok you want new info, the rumor is that the new Vmax as posted by k1w160 will be realeased in 2008. Every bike shop I've talked to here in NZ and in the states has confirmed that.
And there have been a few sightings of it being road tested in southern California.

That's cause Yamaha Aussie don't think it will sell here so you'de have to import from Japan.
Funny how they still think that despite the numbers of them there are in this country.

No, they will be talking about the current one (as in the one that has just been put out with all the new bits) instead of the 'legendary original'
Even when the new Max comes out, I promise you alot of the sales will be from older riders that will think to themselfs, "I rememeber riding one of these when they were first released and damn that thing was cool!"

Waylander I'm trying to get may head around this Vmax Vboost thing. Was it in every model and came on at 6000rpm? Or for specific market years? I've gathered that it can be altered to kick in at 3000rpm or less.
Waylander
9th January 2007, 21:36
Vboost is Carb sharing, gives you a good kick in the pants at 6,000rpm and yes it can be modified to activate at different times.
Usually you mod it so that it is either on all the time or activates at 3,000, the mod is called T-boost, Z-boost or some other letter -boost (very imaginative those people....)
It's not on all models though, not sure if it just didn't come on some of them for certain years or if each year had one with and one without.
But the 1992 model I took for a test ride from Boyd Honda in Hamilton didn't have Vboost. Bought my 1985 month or two later and it definately has it, easy to tell the difference when you ride it.
