Tyre pressure

Running motard set up on xr650r shod with low profile bridgestone battle ax tyres 17 inch front 18 rear.

Went for run round port hills and half way to akaroa - about 50 km, when pulled up rear had some decent heat in it when felt with hand.

I set the pressure's to 41 at the front and 34 on the rear - felt sure footed round corners. Chose the pressures cause theres a 7 lb difference in xr manual for trail tires (25 and 18) quite heavy front end on xr.

Am i best just to run 41 all-round to avoid heating up the rear to much, or other pressures ? Went for 41 lbs cause thats rating on side of battlax. Hills/corners main form of riding.

probally too high on the front, 30-32 front and rear. heavy on the front for a dirtbike nothing like a litre plus sports bike though.

Cheers - thought that be bit low - dude at dirt action services said with the E07 Mitas trail road tyres to keep them at 35 on the road to avoid heating up
and wearing more than they should.

Done 15 km of straight line crusing speed 100 k/hr just before pulled over and as said the rear with less pressure was considerably hotter than the front.

Can ya afford to go lower pressure with such a low profile tyre and are they meant to have decent amount of heat battlax's ?

Okay a bit of topic but i wonder if using nitogen whould be a good idea with bike tires
i see tony tire service offering for cars anyway , is true it either doesint leak or stays at the same presure i forget which one .

I still got my tire guage i got with my cbx 400 honda whats a good guage to buy
I still imagine service station ones are tiny bit out .

Might take dirt bike down to Tony's and have rear shocked pumped up with nitrogen if they can get the pressure that high - Cheers

Its pretty much an inert gas and does not change pressure with heat. Couldn't see why could not be used in bike tyres, prob be a lot safer than heat expanding oxygen.

Any company that sells good quality gear like gerorge henry in chch, at a push even repco over supercheap will have decent gauges when you start paying decent dollars.


Also did bit of googling on battlax with some agreeing with buddha and others saying they have experienced cupping with pressuers in low to mid 30's and 39 to 41 best. Will use good old trial and error.
