Hi guys,
as a part of our around-the-world trip we´ll ride through NZ from march to may 2012.
We have to stock up our spare parts.
1) Can you recommend a bike shop in Auckland or elsewhere in NZ, that sells ECB brake pads?
2) If not ECB I take any other brake pads. I just want to avoid to buy them at Honda, because they are much more expensive.
3) Anybody riding a Honda Transalp XL700VA?
Regarding spare parts: how likely is it, that any dealer has parts for the 700? Right now we are in south america and they have nothing in stock, even if they sell the bike in the country.
Cheers

I get my brake pads here: http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/
ECB have a .co.nz website with their dealers/distributors: http://www.ebcbrakes.co.nz/
You won't have a problem in Auckland
Good luck.

Hi YellowDog!
That´s a good advice!
Cycletreads look quite good. At least they have everything listed online I´m looking for.
Compared to south america, where I´m right now that is a differnt world.
Unfortunately most of the parts I need are not in stock. Let´s see, if they can order it.
Thanks for you helpful reply!

Panny,
Last time I had tyres fitted at the Drury Performance Centre (just off the motorway in south Auckland at 257 Great South Road), they had EBC pads, although I couldn't say for what models. I had them on my Blackbird and they were way better than SBS, That's what my Street Triple will get when it's time to replace them. Enjoy your stay!

Hi Panny
I can also recommend Drury Performance Centre for great prices and great service.
Check them out at www.druryperformancecentre.co.nz Mike Old is the Guy there
I ride 3 hours to them, and save money on the local Honda Dealer. Easy to find too.
Maybe email them with what you want so they have in stock for you - Transalps are not very common here
Make sure you include the "Forgotten World Highway" on your travels . If you need a bed there is one in Matiere (tiny, middle of nowhere, close to Forgotten World Highway) just holler

Try calling Motocare in Buenos Aires. Murio is the owner and motorcare do transalp sales and rentals. They started getting the XL700's in 2008 so would more than likely carry spares and maybe could have them couriered to you.
Murio's English is good if your spanish isn't good. Murio also has an agent in Nequeun at the top of Patagonia.
Murio is also very honset and is great to deal with.

Sorry, I meant EBC, but I take ECB, too, if that brand exists:-)

Thanks for the reply!
Things in Argentina are a bit "different"! Even for motorcycles, they sell down here, they have no spare parts in stock. I made plenty of experiences with getting spare parts in Argentina / South America.
To make things worther: even IF they can get your parts they are very expensive here, because their 50% import tax on everything.
Chile is MUCH cheaper, but there, too, they have only VERY FEW parts for our bike in stock.
Greetings from Argentina!

Hey man, don't stress too much, all bike shops in NZ can get EBC brake pads, whether they are a stockist or not, most can get them overnight. So you don't need to limit yourself to just to shops in Auckland, same deal with tyres and pretty much everything else.
Sounds like an amazing adventure you are on and I'm sure you will love NZ and our roads!! If you end up in the Hawkes Bay pop into Bay Motorcycles for a coffee...
Ride safe!
