This is a general invitation to all riders who wish to go for a ride in support of a good cause.
A local rider, Tony Mills (Ynotslow) has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and to show our support two batons will be leaving Wellington first thing on Saturday March 3.
They will make their way up the island, final destination being Auckland where they will join the Relay for Life.
The batons will arrive in Sanson at approx 10.00 am on the Saturday.
One will head west to the Naki and beyond and the other will head east via SH1, Taihape BP (brief gas stop) and then over the Gentle Annie to Napier.
From Napier it will then head to Taupo and both batons will eventually meet in Te Kuiti and onwards to Auckland.
If you're keen to head east or west, be at Sanson sometime before 10.00 am Saturday the 3rd.
Ride as little or as much as you like, the aim is to have an enjoyable safe run while showing support for those affected by this evil bloody curse that is cancer :bash:
Some more information can be found here

Even so we're littered with road works here at the moment, there's a two K stretch after the white cliffs turn off that resembles a gravel quarry and the north side of mount messenger has recently been laid with treacle and muesli (again). That said, overall the ride from Urenui to Te Kuiti is looking pretty good and going up the mountain is a treat ( weather and traffic permitting) should be a good ride.:niceone:

Greetings all.
I will be printing all the Cancer Relay threads this Thursday 2nd March. They will then be all bound together into one book of sorts. I'll take it down to Wellington on Friday and it'll go into the baton for it's journey up the country. It'll then be presented along with the other bits and pieces.
The reason I am telling you all this comes to you in two parts:
1) It mightn't be a bad idea to go through any posts you've made and edit or remove anything you don't want to be permanently recorded. I can't think of anything that actually needs changing, but that's up to you. All that we ask is that you don't go crazy and end up changing the past, so to speak, and ruining the flow of the thing.
2) Please feel free to add any further personal messages of support.
Once again, anything that's still in here on Thursday will go to print, and obviously the opposite is true of anything not added to the thread by then. See most of you Saturday.

Our handover place is where the HB Relay for Life is taking place. I thought it only fitting, but decided I should let the good folk at Cancer Society know that we are going to turn up. The lady I spoke to was blown away when I told her the story. She wants our baton change to happen on the track, as it is special and should be recognised as such. She will confirm with me tomorrow, but it is looking pretty likely.
Watch this space!

Sorry I could not make it today Tony, but i am their in spirit , my small things going on are nothing compared to what you and your family are facing, and after going thou this same thing with my Dad only a few years ago the unhappyness is still raw and hurting. But it is getting easier. ;)
So I wish you and your family all the strength I can send and give to you, plus I hope/feel everyone else is doing the same.
And to all that is out their riding for this amazing cause, please ride safe and go home to your loving family and remember to give them a hug and tell them you love them. You just never know!
