Morning all,

Anyone know if the trick (where you can catch a flight to Rarotonga, sit the bike test for $10 followed by a ride around the block, get your Raro licence and come back and convert it to a full class 6) is still working?

Before you jump on me for this topic being done to death, I did do a search (eg (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/archive/index.php/t-112519.html)), but the other threads were from a couple of years ago and didn't give a definitive answer

Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply. Could I trouble you to give me a link to the relevant info?

So can we now continue this thread with questions about the "Super Secret KB Wave"?

First rule of "Super Secret KB Wave" is dont talk about the "Super Secret KB Wave"

Why ... The meaning of NO has not changed ... and should be definitive enough.

You are quite welcome to try though.

But time served has provided me with sufficient credentials. Or did the person only demonstrate the basic wave and not the 'advanced' wave which I have heard whispers of...

just go and get your bloody license the normal way
if you think you need to cheat to get it,
then sell the bike and buy a cage
dont need riders who only think they can ride
riders who are not brave enough to take the test and get their license.
hell its not that hard.

The license tests over here aren't that hard. I even managed to get the 6F first time round.

In my day we had to race the 5-0 over the Rimutakas to get your 6F. Good thing I had an RG250 and the poor Plod was on an R65.

Or was that the day after I got my 6F?

They're way too fucking easy, that's half the problem (that we're paying increased ACC etc) allied with a lack of practical training at the licensing stage.

I understand what you're saying but I think that you still had to do the full practical and theory tests - the advantage was that you avoided staying on your learners and restricted for however long it was

Just get one of those time machine a dude is selling on ebay, dial it back to 1985 with the coordinates Darfield - Canterbury and that way ya only have to answer an extra 5 verbal questions when sitting ya cage licence and then on another day ride ya bike 50m up the road while the plod stands on footpath and watches you do a U turn at the tearooms and return to council car park and do a couple of figure 8's. Worked for me mate to with year of 89 and coordinates of Akaroa Canterbury.

No, you are looking for a way around doing your licence test & a quick trip to Raro to get on the piss & come back with a full class 6 licence sounded like a good idea. It WAS a good idea, and you CAN still get a RARO licence. You just can't convert the RARO licence into a full Class 6 any longer .

Thought the Raro temporary license woild be a wee scrap of paper but no ... it is a nicely laminated thing that is a cool reminder if a week spent over there two up on a GN125. Loved it!

It's not a bad looking licence and produced in a few minutes... try getting that done in NZ. $20 - just a money making scheme but there's no pretense about it being anything other than that. The cops don't even test you now, they let the rental places charge $2 (more $$ making lol) for a paper temp licence to bide you over till you can get to the cop shop. I showed my NZ 6F and didn't even need the temp licence.

There was a sign in the Police station basically saying that they will give you a practical test if you really want one but if you fail you pay all over again - we certainly didn't see anyone being tested by cops.

Best tip we received was leave it till 3pm - no queues then. All morning there were lines of eager new tourists straight off the plane sweltering in the heat.

Wife and I had a hell of a lot of fun on a 115hp Yamaha, all hours of the night and day. Cheaper and more fun than rental cars. We loved the place, would go back in a heartbeat.

Yep, it would be much better if they had mandatory training with proper instructors followed by harder tests, than having kids learn bad habits off their parents and having to wait a year or two to get their full, and by that time having locked in their poor skills for the rest of their lives.

Or worse learning loads of ridiculously bad habits from motorsport events, sprints, motorkanas and autocrosses are not good drivers ed. unless you want to go really fast. and know how to stop cos that tyre walls coming up faster than your braking ability
