View Full Version : Bike V Cage Part.........................?

AMCN has just done a comparison at Wakelield park track in Goulburn NSW.
It was between a K5 Gixxer and a Porsche Turbo S.
The cage was driven by Warren Luff - V8 supercar driver, and AMCN editor Sam McLachlan rode the bike. Seems that he's a bit handy as a rider, but not up to Luffs level.
Track conditions were cold, which gave the cage an extra advantage in grip, but the bike still beat the car by a second. Luff said there was no more to be had from the car without suspension mods. The Porsche was faster through 6 of the ten corners and could brake way later thanks to the ceramic brake option that alone costs more than the Gixxer.
But there was no way the Porsche could live with the bike out of corners, even some 600's on the track were leaving it behind.
Acceleration figures were:
400 metres
Porsche 12.47 @ 186 km/h
Gixxer 10.48 @ 228 km/h
0 - 100 Km/h
Porsche 4.26 secs
Gixxer 3.26 secs.

they did a test in one of the british bike mags. car were:
BMW M3 CSL,
Lambo Merculiahhhhhhhgo thing,
and a Radical SR3(5?) busa powered thing.
Bike were a Stock-as-a-rock GSXR1000 and a rizla BSB GSXR1000
all on track, drivers were Colin Macrash, one of the bike mags journos and Niel Mackenzie.
Results were,
GSXR1000 Race
Radical,
GSXR1000 Road
Lambo
BMW.
So essientaily what they say is to bet a Italian supercar you need a $20k bike and an average joe blog owner.

Be a slight price difference between the pusher and the bike?
Not much, bike + gear about $25k. High end VW, $250k.
So the car is one 0 more...
Must get back to the budget now as Helen is getting inpatient!

Only way really is to clean it up really clean, then run it lfor a bit, and see where the oil is leaking. Then if necessary remove that cover, repeat etc.
Maybe someone who knows the model well may be able to suggest a likely candidate.
Danger is, those little 250's don't have much oil in them. So if you've got an oil leak it can run the level down quite quickly to the point where there isn't enough to lubricate things properly. That gets REAL expensive.
In the meantime , keep a very close eye on the level and top up freqeuntly

I raced some dudes in a mean as red MR2 back from Piha. I've no idea what it was packing, but it was honestly the best sounding car bar none that I've ever heard (including Porsches and Ferraris getting thrashed big time). Two sets of jaws dropped when I rolled up beside them on my CBR250R with barely and brakes and the exhaust nearly falling off. Little bike on some of them tight corners holds its own well, thank you

Oil leak? Don’t worry, the Porsche will have one or two as well!
911 oil leak fix,
Step 1, Remove and disassemble motor.
Step 2, Fully re-build motor making sure to replace EVERY seal, washer and gasket.
Step 3, Replace motor and pray.
Step 4, Give owner huge bill, repeat every 3 years.
SR oil leak fix.
Replace the $2.50 leaking seal with an after market one, repeat every 10 years.

Depends on what sort of corners too. I've ridden with Buggy a couple of times and he's definitely no slouch. I gave a mate a hiding 'round Manfeild back in the day on my RGV when he was driving his M3. I dear say B/Juice could do the same with even more time to spare.

I've not been on a fast ride with Mr BJ, but I've driven E46 M3s and CSLs. I'll have to go for a fast ride with him before I can comment, but I know that I'm closer to finding the cornering limits of my bike than of an M3 (possibly less to lose financially if I crash my bike)

10 times was an exageration, if your bike was brand new. ie 22000 mark
seeing as yours is a transgendered bashed to death by the tarmac, choking away on its death bed no longer worth 22k maybe 12k after the trash treatment(fair call i say) that makes around 5 times more expensive.

I love my bike a lot...it is a 1994 zxr250c. But I have to admit, my car will blow it off the road. The bike is faster...till the cars turbo spools up...then byebye bikey.
I don't think i could ever like just one, they are both so much fun for totally different reasons.
There is nothing like opeining the bikes throttle and winding through the gears, or being low as anything in a corner. Equally, there is nothing like find a windy road in the middle of nowhere and taking the car through its paces with a bit of oversteer here and there.
Both take different skills. I am still pretty green on a bike, i only got rid of my chicken strips a couple of months ago, and my wheelies etc. leave lots to be desired. I can definitely hold my own in a car against most guys.
Enjoy them both for their different characteristics.
Fun can be had in or on anything fast...jetski, plane, boat, car, bike..whatever.

I'd have Porch too, if someone gave me one. Run it for a week till I got pissed off in the gridlock, then buy a cheaper car and a couple of nice bikes. Or three................hang on, 4 is a nice number. Stuff it, 7 nice bikes.
Then I could spend half my riding time trying to decide which to ride.
The thing is, if any of us had the money, then there is no doubt we would not only have our dream bikes, but also the odd car or two stashed away in the warehouse at the foot of our multi million dollar mansion (that has its own private racetrack).
We are all allowed to dream . . . and to want a lambo, or a ferrari, or an atom, is only human. As Brett said, anything fast is fun. For most of us, the most fun you can get for your buck is on two wheels. By all means enjoy it, but dont bag the fun you can have on four wheels too - no one can deny caning the crap out of a fast car is fun . . .
