Ok that was a catch headliner, but that is how it was in todays Sunday Star, apparently the $13 Million upgrade for taupo is all go ! MNZ president David Appletone said he would be promoting NZ case to hold a round of the GP here in New Zealand, at Taupo.
Apparently the new track and safety work will be done by Feburary with the rest of the work carried out during the year (2006)
So lets hope that the MNZ guys are onto a winner and we can hold a GP in NZ
Be kinda cool having the top riders racing on our track huh ?:Punk:

Yeah Cool next AMCC round we may have a new track at taupo
Thats pretty good news about the extensions to the racetrack, NZ's tracks are falling behind the rest of the world and we need something better to have more variety, specially up in the north island.
It would be great if we could get a motogp race over here but somehow I don't see it happening. Some very weathly person would have to get behind it and pay for most of it cause I can't see the government or any body like that paying for it to happen. Oh well here's hoping.

Would be nice to have a track we could all go to that has a smooth surface and no cement dust on it

I saw in a cage mag, an artist's impression of the new Taupo track layout, and it looks fukin awesome. It has the ability to run 2 track sessions at the same time (along with 2 start/finish lines and 2 pit areas), and the full open track length has been taken from 1.3km (??) in length to 3.8km, and the main start/finish straight is a lovely 850m long and doubles up as a pro drag strip. Up to 4 track combos, plus new go kart track, and an dirt bike track too. No idea when it'll be ready tho, but it has got the go ahead, and apparently will be built..
Taupo DC story on it (http://www.taupodc.govt.nz/News/Financial+Support+for+Motor+Race+Track+Upgrade.htm )
can't wait.. it looks like a proper track should. Lets hope they deliver

The best bit is what you dont see in the plans.
The track is going to use the natural contour of the land. The result will be some interesting elevation changes.
It does look really darn good.
The plans that I saw though seeemed to allow for 2 tracks -the existing track and the full track --I couldn't see how both could be run at the same time -Unless turn 1 ,to the hairpin was doubled in width

after going round the track this weekend, it's a bit bloody small for the MotoGP to be hacking round it, isn't it..?? Can't wait to see the V8 action on it.. that'd be interesting in itself

That's what I thought. After seeing Stroud and Sam Smith getting around it the GP bikes would spend all of about 10 seconds per lap at vertical. Rest of the time they'd be pissing around in 1st/2nd gear

Hey guys and girls,
I've set up an online petition to get some formal support going for MotoGp coming to NZ.
If your interested, please visit the link below and sign up.
http://www.motogp.co.nz/supportnz/
If you can think of any more blurb to put on it, let me know.
I'll add functionality to be able to view the people and comments already signed up in a few days.
Cheers for your support!

But then again they would be using the full international 3.4km track for MotoGP. We were only on the new half of the track.
But then again having been on the full track it doesn't seem to have any 300+km straights either
