Adjusting my chain without a rear wheel stand?

Hi guys i have a marauder 250cc or gn250. Can i adjust the chain without lifting the rear wheel. The guy in the shop recoked i CAN - what do you guys think. I asked him if he sold stands for a cruiser - he said they only had them for sports bikes. Is he right can i adjiust it without the stand - otherswise im thinking to jimmy one up out of some wood - any ideas?

i dont usually have the bike on a stand for chain adjustment

Daytona as well Dogs?..............if so would like to get one if just for the ease of wheel cleaning

Yes you can adjust the chain on just a sidestand. I find it easier to do this with someone of similar size/weight sitting on the bike (without the sidestand down) while I'm checking the adjustment. This is because the rear wheel can be pushed back with weight on the bike and the chain tightens as a result. Don't always have someone else around though, so may have to use the sidestand and check the adjustment a few times while doing it.

BTW, if you're in Pakuranga I can probably show you what to do.

I've got a paddock stand for my bike and I adjust the chain while the bike is only on the side stand. Easier to check tension that way because I can hop onto the bike and check it under load.

Yeah the daytona is easy and likewise do it grounded....the trophy with its double swingarm and off centred adjusters is better done on the stand

Got a single sided one for the rear,double for the front, plus other one in link...

I tend not too pivot the daytona on the side stand as its attached too the engine casing..... and don't fancy having that fracture :confused:

There is a hydraulic jack that will lift a bike like yours from its "belly" easy to use and makes removing wheels etc easy

There is plans for a stand for the gz250 made out of wood. I havent got around to making them yet but should work good. Just google gz250 bike, should be able to find it pretty easy.
