There is another view to the data. My trust in the others is going down faster than my trust of popos.
Seriously though, what do you think is the reason if we believe the poll?

So the point of this thread is that the police respect rating has been raised due to the recession? I mean from Business leaders down are all the occupations who's greed has been seen as causing the recession and who's losses due to the recession are hurting the public.
BTW I thought the police were Public Servants :weird:. But guess most people think bureaucrat when asked the question on public servants and don't think of such people as DOC workers etc. Then there is the Government propaganda that suggests all their spending goes to these people when in fact far more of your taxes go to the "private" sector.
With Fonterra's handing of the dairy pricing in this country it is not surprising their shareholders/suppliers rate low.
Builders because of the high house prices I guess.
But why Chefs??
All in all fish tail nothing for the poppo to crow about. I always respect the poppo as I was taught as child but then they go and behave like dicks and lose it. I respect the uniform until the person wearing proves unworthy :bleh:

My 4 year old dealings with police over psycho girlfriend, left a lot to be desired. Incredibly badly handled, and psychologically damaging to all peoples involved.
However, I realize that the problem is not at the grass roots level, the guys and girls working on the streets that we see.
Did you know that CADS (community drug and alcohol services) has no screening methodology for ADHD or autism. Crazy huh? Soooooooo damaging for these poor souls
Everyone who comes in is processed in a similar manner with no real allowance for individual neurology or disorders.....Even with a formal diagnosis, you are grouped together in an antagonistic and ignorant manner
How can those dealing with the ills of society, do their job when they are not taught what and how those illnesses are??

Yes, but you're implying that your terminology has some sort of existing acceptance with your 'fairly basic civics' carry-on. I've never heard it before.
The legislative arm has powers to make you do shit against your will by taxing you. The judicial arm can put you in jail, shift your property boundaries, and set aside commercial contracts. Might as well call every arm of gubmint coercive. And the traditional American model of a three-armed government (which doesn't entirely match our own) typically has the executive arm revolving around its ability to command armed forces and direct foreign policy.
I believe your attempt to equate the policing of citizenry with that aspect of government to be fallacious.

Hey, we may agree to disagree on the terminology, (I may well be a little off on the exact naming of the three, coming from a non-english background). But I do stand behind how I perceive them and the sentiment that stems from that.
Besides: The legislative branch merely sets the framework. The judicial arm merely decides on you going to prison, they don't put you in prison. The "coercive" arm enforces their decision. Have I made the distinction clearer?
jrandom

Yes, but I don't like the terminology. 'Coercive' has a flavour of action by fiat. Your 'coercive arm' has little or no decision-making capability of its own in this broader context. In the end, in our semi-theoretical democracy in question, if a sufficient majority of the citizenry disagree with the actions of the legislative arm, the actions of your 'coercive' arm will be affected / curtailed.
Hence my preference for the definition of police as public servants. Only in democracies are they distinct from the armed forces, really, and I think that distinction is worth preserving in discussion.

 that is what I mean about the bullies attitude and not being able to back down when confronted with a mistake. Sure i can understand that they saw a pistol and reacted, but after they pinned him, shoved a rifle in his face and handcuffed him they must have noticed that it was only an air pistol and his age etc. There is NO excuse for it not to have stopped there. They should have apologised and released him, then I could still have some respect. But to charge and only back off when the prosecutor said you must be joking and to try and defend trying to prosecute? No Fing respect here for that.

So the cops unknowingly hire a 'tard, make her into a postergirl for their reality TV show, things go wrong at work, she gets stood down, then is up on charges for theft, when she was not present at the crime scene??
Does anyone else smell something wrong here?
What was she stood down for exactly? interpersonal issues with fellow officers?
I'm guesssing she was bullied at work, and did something about it?
At least its comforting to know its not personal with autism and the police, they just have no idea about autism in the population....in this interpersonal regard..... and when dealing with the public
The police must be doing something right, but I feel this is not one of those times............................................. ........hopefully someone on a big salary at recruitment, may eventually learn about pervasive developement disorders PDD's and learn not to hire autistic officers, terrible job choice for these people.

According to the article she leant her uniform to her son. Her son and a 'mate' then impersonated a cop and mate, don't no if the mate, as he was only in overalls, was impersonating a cop.
Seems she had dodgy family connections and a dodgy character.
Note; this is still in front of the court so is only the accusation at this stage.
No interpersonal issues,
No retard issue, except perhaps thinking she could lend her uniform to her son to steal a car and get away with it but that's still criminal even if it is stupid.
No work bullying.

I, and I think most of NZ, expect police recruit vetting to be above that required for most other employment as they are one of the few gangs in our country that get the legal power to bully the rest.

I posted that story as the thread was in regards to the publics level of trust and opinion of the police (hence the RELEVANCE) And as I clearly stated, I was surprised that particular story wasn't mentioned before due to it standing out as a poor example of winning public trust.(once again...relevant)
I also CLEARLY stated in my original post that I viewed it as a case of "bad apples" ruining all the fine work of so many GOOD police.
Did I shit in your weetbix this morning Boris?...are you IN a crane presently and left ya lappy down below (hence the reading probs:laugh:)
I will AGAIN clarify:
I DO NOT! post anti police statements etc, I HAVE and always will support the police (Two family members are cops!, And one is ambo) And I have NOTHING but respect for the poilce and the difficult job they do.
Please read posts carefully before "attacking" your brothers...especially when they agree with you:msn-wink:
Same goes for you, i never attacked you I just asked a simple question.
never said you post anti police.
Boris is usually the attacking troll. Now he is the protective troll. Either way it has worked. He must be bored, no sunbathing yummy mummies to perve at from the crane perhaps.
BTW Boris, I too ensure your interwebs break regular like and have past several police checks, both security and character.
No stuck in office with no AC.
Is it trolling to disagree with what you post?

But you haven't disagreed with what we have posted you have disagreed with the posters. You have shown a disregard for the subject of the thread in doing so. May be a mistake in overlooking how the thread started and what it is about, we all make them, but in other thread you seem have come in to have a stir. Then again perhaps I judge you a bit harshly on your nickname, maybe you are a toothless Russian and not a biter after all (Boris being a typical Russian characterised type name).

None of these stories affect you.
No you are anti cop so any chance you have to show them up you jump in boots and all.
You know nothing then
From what I've seen of your posts, you appear to be a Govt (& dept's) brown-noser (which surprises me you work with cranes), what I posted was relevant to the thread. Then you blindly jump to the defence, you would make the perfect patriotic American.
I defend the cops when they deserve it & attack them when they abuse their powers, or fail to uphold the minimum of standards we should expect from them (which tend to hit the news more). You on the other hand seem like you would still blindly follow, obey & defend them even if they were beating you with sticks like the LAPD just for crossing the road wrong.
Respect is earned, NOT a privilege. This goes for the cops too...

I like cops, usually like to have a beer and a laugh, shame the job is so stressful, and bad apples get thrown in the good apples face.
I'm coming from wanting to highlight the handling of mentally affected NZers. The NZ public including youth and children... with pervasive developement disorders are over represented in crime statistics.
A lot of the time they are those arrests that seem a little unfair, or somehow could have been done different. A lot of the time, the police dont like the tard, or communication is too different and unfamiliar for them..... and they show discretion proportionally.
That scenario is parallel in the wider society, not just police. So its hardly fair for me to be highly critical of good kiwis doing their job.
Its just that with police you can get your ass kicked for being a retarded dumb fuck. Its a kind of racism I protest, and its not just me, but the wider mentally disabled community that also feel this way.
I'm trying to help

I have disagreed with the way curtain posters always go after the police like SS does.
I saw what the thread was and knew what it would become.
And no you were right the first time just board:laugh: and SS is easy to wind up.

And you think you do? You are right respect is earned and what have you done that deserves respect?
From what i have read nothing.
I have't defended anyone I just asked the question why do you always find the stories that bring the police down?
That's right it doesn't make a good story when someone does something right, always easier to poke crap at others.
I would really like to see where you have posted a positive story about the police.

Your right but news is nearly always bad, and thats what news is, bad luck stories. We talk about what we read in papers and hear on the news. We argue over it until a new bad luck story comes a long.
Could be different, should be different, but its not. In defence of KB police talk though, KB supports the police in many threads, tons of links to stories about angry nut jobs going berserk:blink: and getting their ass kicked.
Most bikers here cheer the cops more than most NZers, and have an odd relationship....

Well on NatRad today they mentioned that the lady who runs the "bringing down the road toll" Division is stepping down.....
widely respected for last years (or year before) bringing of the toll down to 1950's level....

Was she working for NZP or TNZA?
It is good news that she got the credit.
Or did you mean the news that she was stepping down? :shifty:
