I have to choice of two bikes the first:
Yamaha XJ550 40000ish k's on it 1982 quite a tidy example for $550
or
Suzuki GSX400 50000ish k's on it 1985(ish) has a few dents on the tank and a little surface rust on the exhaust $400
both have rego on hold, and no current wof, hence why they are so cheap so which would you go for if it was you? photos below

it's sunday, wait until monday lunch time, by then I'm sure you would have had your fill of replies. Only reason I'm on here is I'm suppost to be working on my assignments due tomorrow :argh:
What sort of riding do you want it for, communting, weekend thrash, track days etc? My obvious choice would be the suzuki because well it's a suzuki.

Neither bike has major issues. The suzuki does have a gutless charging system but that will have burnt out and been replaced by now.
Even though Im a XJ freak I'd suggest that the suzuki would be the best bet for you for your useage.
I wont go into a long boring rational but the gsx is lighter ,has somewhat better handling and will be cheaper to service--2 cylinders instead of 4
