Important Update.
Due to extreme weather forcast for the North Island on Saturday, the ride has been reluctantly postponed until Sunday March 4th. Times and venues remain the same.

On march 3rd 2012 there will be a ride from Wellington to Auckland in honour of ynotslow (Tony) a long time KB member and a thoroughly good bastard.
Unfortunately Tony has terminal cancer so this tribute to him will meet up (eventually) with the guys and girls in Auckland doing the relay walk in aid of all cancer sufferers.
This is an open invite to any Naki riders to join with us from Urenui and progress as far North as you wish to go but, Te Kuiti is where we will meet up with other riders from the south and east.
Nothing is required of you other than your company but as this is a ride in tribute to Tony, in remembrance of loved ones lost and in support of those suffering with this evil disease, I
would respectfully request that we ride it in a manner befitting the occasion.
Come and stick two fingers up to cancer and bag a great ride while your at it, hope to see some of you there!:niceone:
Meeting point: car park in Urenui opposite the pub
Date: 3rd March
Time: 1.30 pm ish.
Destination: anywhere North of Urenui, your call .

Come on Nakisters, lets make this a big, safe, fun and profitable ride for Fat Tony and all families that have endured this hateful disease, high time we beat the crap out of it and the fight starts here. We need you, what else ya gonna do? mow the lawns? come on down and smack Cancer around a bit.
Tony and his beautiful daughters with Martybabe and the Bride doing the 'robot' in the background.

Your situation it pretty dire, no getting around that.
Eveyone who takes part in the relay for life (where ever they are) are do so because of Cancer has effected them in some way.
The bigger picture? yes its about others but this part (the ride) is yours only my friend...

Yup, meet you there 3- 4pm all being well, can't be more precise as we're just a link in the chain but at least we have a rough time now. If we're there earlier all the better.
Good point by the way, there ain't much in the way of fuel stops between Urenui and Te Kuiti so check your fuel before or at Urenui guys.

The Western route is way shorter than the Eastern route...by about 140 ks.
So you will be there sooner.
Gremlin
16th February 2012, 10:08
The eastern route is approx 100km longer, so it will take those riders longer to get to Te Kuiti...

Me yes, a quick dunk of the head in a sink full of water and I'm done but in the Bride's world, you gotta wash your hair, dry your hair, straighten your hair then curl
your hair before you can put your helmet on. Don't even get me started on what outfit would suit her best under the bike gear, I've quite often fallen
asleep before she finally cocks a leg over the bike.
Anyway, just done the Urenui to Te Kuiti leg as a tester, took me an hour to Mokau (normally 30 mins), none stop roadworks, single lane gravel traps, chip n seal and
tar snakes are the name of the game at the moment. Had to wash the bike and all my gear on my return, plastered in cement dust. Hopefully it will have improved by
'Tony' day.

Just Te kuiti or Hamilton at this stage darlink, the Bride can't go any further but she doesn't want to miss out on this ride. Just going for a bit of a test ride now to see how she copes.

I have been advised that the Urenui pumps need extra care, the floor is not flat like most gas stations.
Reportedly more than one bike has been dropped because the rider put a foot down and found nothing but air.

Correct my mate, round the back of the pumps close to the shop is the way to go, mind you it ain't the cheapest fuel in the naki anyway so you may want to fill up beforehand.

She's got to have the op unfortunately but hopefully no chemo or radio. Would love to come and play at your house and thanks for the offer but it will have to be another time sweetness. I especially wanted to come and cheer the angels on but it is what it is, better times are coming.

Greetings all.
I will be printing all the Cancer Relay threads this Thursday 2nd March. They will then be all bound together into one book of sorts. I'll take it down to Wellington on Friday and it'll go into the baton for it's journey up the country. It'll then be presented along with the other bits and pieces.
The reason I am telling you all this comes to you in two parts:
1) It mightn't be a bad idea to go through any posts you've made and edit or remove anything you don't want to be permanently recorded. I can't think of anything that actually needs changing, but that's up to you. All that we ask is that you don't go crazy and end up changing the past, so to speak, and ruining the flow of the thing.
2) Please feel free to add any further personal messages of support.
Once again, anything that's still in here on Thursday will go to print, and obviously the opposite is true of anything not added to the thread by then. See most of you Saturday.

Well the forecast for Saturday is rain across the entire north Island. Disappointing news but as I've always said, I would walk from Taranaki to Auckland for Tony if it
would do any good, so the ride is still on, the reasons are still as valid, just dig out your waterproof gear and come riding for Tony and help to kick Cancer in the nads.
Tony:
You have been an inspiration to me, your dignity and spirit in the face of adversity has been a lesson I shall carry through life. You will never
appreciate how much your friendship and little messages of approval and support have meant to me over the years. It's not easy upping sticks and moving half way
around the world to start a new life, You and people like you with your warm sensitive welcoming cheeky nature have been instrumental in our decision to stay here in
Godzone. If this Country can produce genuine good bastards like you then it's a place and a people I'm happy to be part of.
Take care my friend, enjoy the rest of your journey.
Your friend always, Mart.x
