Anyone going to this trail ride on Sunday? Te Akau

Had a good time there last year, a good fast farm ride.

Directions:
Take the Waingaro road/Highway 22 to Waingaro springs.
Take the next left into Ohautira Road, turn right into Ruakiwi Road, and take the first left in Mangiti Road.
It will be signposted
Classes:
- All levels of riders catered for. Separate kids track.
Terrain:
A coastal ride on the Northern side of Raglan Harbour. Fantastic views, awesome track.
Continuous loop track. Suitable for all types of bikes.

Last year there was quite a good kids loop, a nice 7k loop with awesome views of the Harbour and a 20+k loop up the back, good farm riding.
Another one the following Saturday at Waipa Ranui Station, can't beat the views and tracks up the back there.

Nope not me, although Scotts right, it is great country, I'm doing the latte sippers Riverhead ride, refined, not muddy and tapas served at half time.

Yeah that's about it, simple ride, the wet hardly makes any difference. Nice, well-draining clay base, should be primo.

Clearly your definition of awesome skips over details like what do I do with the 30 kg of mud I brought home with me...:crazy:

It was good, although I felt for the young guy upside down under his XR on one of the steeper downhills asking how much further to the end.... he'd been going for half an hour and judging by his lack of progess probably had 2 hours to go. He did confide that it was his first ever trailride and I could only feel sorry for the two of them, I helped them down to a "flatter" bit and left them contemplating their fate.

Maybe there needs to be a disclaimer added about the skill levels needed for Riverhead, the B course is probably an A option on a lot of other rides?

Lots of fun tho, I'm glad it dried out a bit the 9.00am loop was wet, muddy & grossly slippery, there was a huge improvement by the time I managed to recover enough for the second assault at 10.30.

I blew the 30kgs of mud all over the wash world in Hendo on the way home, I'm pretty sure they appreciated clay all over the walls and ground.

I got out for the first loop at about 10.30, was starting to tack up nicely in places... although some sections were never going to dry out after Friday's deluge.

I just seemed to have one of those days when things were clicking into place, was flying up a lot of the tricker sections, so I loved it. However, my ride buddy was knackered 5 minutes into the first loop and he got steadily worse from there, he had to stop for quite a few 20 minute breathers. Definitely not an easy ride for the less experienced, feel sorry for the XR pilot you helped, that is definitely not a "first trail ride" level ride.

22k loop was hard and rough, lots of people complaining after the first lap, lots of unmarked hazards in the long grass, water troughs, rocks drop offs etc or just getting totally lost because of the lack of signage, it was like lets pick the shittest roughest parts of the farm and make them all go through there, was ugly and dangerous first up. Got slightly better in the arvo after it had been trampled a bit. We were convinced it was marked out on a horse.. 7k loop was awesome so that put smiles back on everyone's faces!
Waipa Ranui next week is always a good one.
