I have no legal knowledge of if it is or isnt,

But you can get replacement lens covers that are shaded or shaped to do the same thing.

Only legal in Gotham City, sorry.

I don't believe you are allowed to cover your mandatory lights with anything that yields a less than normal visibility of the light. However, when looking this up, it was pertaining to headlights (like tinted headlight covers). Whether this specifically applies to all lights or just headlights, I'm not 100% certain.

edit: Found this clause from NZTA on "Get your lights right". http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/get-your-lights-right/get-your-lights-right.html

It is illegal to apply any kind of tint film, tint paint or opaque sticker to any lamp which has a function other than decoration (eg non-cosmetic).

You can get a fail if the inside of the lense is dirty. You may get away with it though ... if you are wearing your Batman outfit ...

you can also get a fail if your car headlights have gone opaque (bit of a cut and polish usually sorts it)

I wouldnt be too worried, if you fail a W.O.F or get pulled up for it,
you can just peel them off.. assuming its on the outside of your tailight

The headlight fail is correct, usually because when checked with the beam setter, its out of focus. Where I work, if we can polish it off, we do. Silly fails are a thing of the past (for the most part)
