.... yeah not so much.
Short story; lost a valve or the cam chain snapped on the main straight just before the kink during second practice. It's not fixable nor am I going to put a new motor in it.
Anybody got a race bike they need a rider for??

Fuck you're hard on gear
Why isn't it fixable?

That's the second time it's eaten itself. The first time was when the previous owner had it. This time, judging by the horrible tinkling noises it was making it would need to be completely pulled down and rebuilt. New rings, piston(s??), valves, gudgeon pins, most likely bearings etc. Judging by the amount of oil in the belly pan something holed a case (haven't actually looked as I'm in the process of getting hammered while sulking). There wasn't any oil spilt at Paeroa but there was a lot of coolant coming from somewhere (so maybe there isn't a hole in a case but oil getting into the cooling system then out through there).
Anyway, the fix is more expensive than getting a new bike. The Trumpy was never going to do better than midfield cos it was just too heavy and difficult to get decent power out of. It was a great fun first race bike. I learnt heaps and enjoyed it a hell of a lot, but I won't be going there again. The disadvantages of the TT600 are difficult and expensive to overcome, especially when there's much cheaper alternatives.

I dunno about luck. There's been a couple of things with this bike that took a while to sort but I had fun and enjoyed doing it, even though I went through a period where the damn thing tried to kill me a few times.
What pissed me off is I'd finally got all those things sorted out and it was handling beautifully. Last weekend for the PMCC @ Taupo was actually the first time I could just get out there and ride the bike without having to worry about anything, just get on, push the button and go racing. That's what's got me so pissed off at the moment; it'd just come right and then the engine lunches itself.
What are you thinking of?
Dunno bro. I've never been keen on going the SV route like everyone else and the 400's are just far too old now. An Aprilia 550 in a decent frame is very appealing but at the moment my budget is sweet fark all.

I guess. My wife is just happy I didn't crash when it blew. I just pulled the clutch in and coasted to the run off with my hand in the air. No bouncing along the track.

There's a '99 model SV on trademe at the moment for under $3k but that's a bit old.
I dunno eh. Building the thing and getting it sorted was half the fun for me. There's nothing special about building something that has already been done hundreds of times before.
This is all ready to go. I think this is the bike I had a look at before buying the TT. He's done what I was going to.

Or you could just give Gary at GP motorcycle wreckers a call and buy the TT600 engine he's got there.

I could but I'm not going to rebuild this bike. It was fun as a first race bike but it's got too many things against it to be competitive
too heavy - the engine block is ridiculously heavy for a 600 and the frame is steel. It's a good 30kg overweight and carrying a rider that's 90kg (and I've lost a bunch of weight already!!)
gearbox - is shit and I don't think the ratios could be worse they're so widely spread. Even after decent sprockets it would still drop 1500rpm when I changed up
fuel injection - it was the first 600 with fuel injection and it shows cos everything is a bit agricultural
ECU - again, first 600 with fuel injection so the ECU is old school as well
difficult to get power out of - I don't have $20,000 to get a good amount of power out of it and that much money it still wouldn't match GSXR's/R6's/CBR's for power
mid range - there wasn't any. None. I could lie the bike on top of my leg around a corner and crack the throttle wide open. As long as I stood it upright before 10,500rpm there's was no way it'd lose traction
Hell, you might find me bugging you about Hyosung 250's if I can't find anything I like Billy haha.

Funny you should bring that up cos it's crossed my mind. Main problem is you can't get one yet let alone one that's lost a cylinder. Well that and the mega-bucks it'd cost.
