Hey, new here.
Was wondering if anyone could help with finding a 50cc scooter on TM. Completely new to bikes, and just want a scooter to ride to school, and practices etc. I have no idea what a good scooter should cost, or what to look out for. please help me.

Figure out how much you can spend to have a legal/running scooter.
Enter number in the search window.
Click search.
Determine in the results given ... which one is best for you.

no disrespect, but for someone with that many posts, that is pretty poor advice. i was hoping for a more specific ideas such as "buy this yamaha jog.. its a good price."

Performance of most 50cc scooters is about the same. What you get is what you pay for ... usually.
How far you need to travel in your cummute, decides cc rating. 125's or larger may be needed in hilly or wind prone areas. Age and abuse the scooters have recieved usually denotes price. As does $$$ needed to get them legal again if they are not already.
At the end of the day ... the final decision is yours. Before you buy (hand over the dosh) test ride ... or ask one who knows to test ride for you.
BUT ... first you must know how much you have to spend. And then decide which ones fit your budget.

Give us the budget you have and the max you can spend.
Do you need do any hills or all flat?
Are you only doing 50 areas or do you need go faster?
Are you handy at fixing any faults or do you need a faultless ready to ride scooter?
Are you prepaired to get learners licence and go bigger than 50cc?
Whats your weekly budget for upkeep and running costs?
good information helps here cause assumption is the Mother of all fuck ups.

50cc is not going to be very fast, unless you get a 2 stroke.
and that will cost a *lot* more in maintenance. the 4 stroke 50's just lack the power to get much above 50.
technically, if it's capable of going over 50kph, you need a class 6 anyway.
good acceleration ,would be something else and depends a lot more on the torque from the engine.

I have owned a 4 stroke 50cc scooter, don't bother with one if your going to do hills,it's just too slow, you will end up getting overtaken by cars, trucks etc...once while going up a hill I almost got smashed into the Kerb by an impatient bus driver.

They are.
Some on here have more seat hours on street magics than they have on real bikes.
Also 70kph is not impossible on them.

yeah the fact that you wouldnt be running it at max all the time apeals.I think if something can do 50 max and its there all the time its almost like your willing it to explode.

Thankyou for all the suggestions, fun looking bikes id admit, but im looking for a more practical newer scooter. The magics look alot of maintenance and pricey repair wise. Had my eye on the yamaha jog 2008 in wellington, what would that price at?

If i do check the bike out what would i look for? obviously no rust etc. But any main things? or problems to be aware of? Btw he wants 1500 including his extras might try him at 1300-1400.
