Ever wondered why it can take bike shop all day too service your bike????


Just a simple service today covering air filter,sparkplugs,fueltank/fuelcock,valve clearences

and sort out gearing ratio of new sprockets

First to start stripping down the bike to get too the places I need to get too

and scratching me head wondering why the how the development team made the airfilter box the way they did :crazy:(too increase the pay packets of motorcycle mechanics worldwide prehaps)

Too get the airfilter out I first have too remove the Carbs,then remove the airfilter box by sliding it forward in the the carb space and sliding it out too the left of the frame and then split it to get too the filter......Hmmm going too make for an interesting day

At least the plugs were a piece of piss to get too,interesting too discover that the plugs I removed were NGK DPR7EA9 instead if the Recommended NGK DPR9EA9 so there was alot of carbon build up on the removed plugs,

Then the fuel tank as I suspected there was some shit build up around the filter and the fuel cock was gummed up with old fuel resin which explained why reserve wouldn't work as the tap was turing on the screw rather than turning the Valve itself,good clean and job done

Valve clearence's will be done once the valve cover seal arrives..(as Murphy is lurking I would rather have the seal and not need it,that not have it and need it....)

As for the gear ratio (now its fair too say that a bike shop did the sprockets and chain for me last month and I dont hold the shop or mechanic at fault) the new sprockets it should have been 18/40 except its 18/44,even the sprocket kit ordered from the supplier say its 18/40,so the parts guy who ordered wants too know why a 44 was sent instead of a 40,at least a 40 is on the way after a very expensive weekend away my fuel consumption went from 320ks/25litres to 200ks/25 litres

All this has been possible too do as we sent the seat away to Tauranga this morning for a Rider makeover after stopping in and dicussing wants and needs in the bike's seat......

Oh by the way its taken just over and hour too get the bike stripped down and get the airfilter out,another hour too strip tank and clean it,repair tap and and the valve clearences haven't even been done yet.....so before you complain about how much labour you have been charged on your bikes service think about what you want them too do in your expected time frame,I reakon by the time I have finished this service I will be looking at about 4.5-5 hours labour,lucky I doing it myself aye.
