Whats the fuel economy like on your dxrkl540exc? A question that gets asked in quite a few threads.

I've signed up to this: http://www.fuelly.com to get a longer term view of what my economy is like for the DR(s), and I've chucked the 4 wheeled beast in also, just cause I'm a geek and like to keep an eye on these things, and having it on my smartphone is easier than in a notebook somewhere and never being able to find a pen.

I've got a small database running on my Android but as the DR gets between 18.5 and 19.5 km/l no matter what sort of riding, I don't bother now.
The TT gets between 15 and 25 km/l depending on riding style. Adventuring in the hills is about the most efficient of the lot.

I get around 25k/l depending on riding +- 1 k.

so that makes my 9.3l tank actually equivalent to 12.5 ltr thank on say 690 ... without the weight :2thumbsup

XT660 gets 23/24km/L... no matter what type of rideing
XR250 gets 21km/L

I was staggered to average 3.8ltr / 100 km at the weekend on tubby the TDM. Just shy of a 1000 k's, two up & luggaged. I think the "safer speed stupid" attitude on the main highways helped, though.

"Whats the fuel economy like on your dxrkl540exc?" Dunno. I don't have one of them sorry.

KTM 640A - 21km/l

KTM 525exc - 19 km/l in adventure trim.

KTM 640A

4.4 - 4.9 L/100km road touring, depending on enthusiasm factor
5.5 L/100km typical all-round adventuring, mix of everything
8 L/100km off-road trail riding and racing
10+ L/100km beach racing

Throttle definitely has an impact on economy (well, duh!) but often it is hidden amongst lots of off- or part-throttle use. Over a 450-500km tankful I consistently get about 5.5 L/100km because the sample is so big. Also, as carb jets wear they run rich and economy suffers, I can see this in my data as the bike ages.

Will have a look at that app, but I've just used spreadsheets for the last 20+ years which do all the calcs for me.

My 625 consistently returns 22km/litre with the supposedly thirsty FCR carb but I ride like a Nana :baby:. DB1k pre event ride and day 1 returned 21.1 km/l. Cheers.

My 07 Dakar would get 26kmpl 2up and loaded. Brilliant economy. My DR with FCR is at present getting 15kmpl (2up) but i'm about to embark on some fine tuning

KLR gets about 18 km/l on average, but again depends how I ride, can get 20 but a lot less too.

Like warewolfs 640, the beachracing used an incredible amount of gas.

My 09 DR650 18.5 km/l standard good range of highway cruising to thrashing the crap out of it, just fitted a procycle jet kit, largest main, opened air box & K&N filter, open rear silencer, not sure now anyone done the same & know what Km/l it will do ?

It'll probably do close to 18.5km/l.
What size main?

Being pushed off the course tell you it was time for more gogo juice

Not exactly sure what the 450 EXC does but on the DB1k I got to 380km before hitting reserve on my 25l tank. Summing around 5l left that equates to 5.3l/100km or 19km/l. Not bad me thinks given there was more than one strop in that 380km.

20 km /l on the 640, possibly a fraction less in hard going and slightly better if I lash out and use 98 (95 is minimum).
The R80 is worse, about 15 km/l on that, the 990 was similar, around 300kms per 21 litres.

The 200's around 10 I think..

Sorry, OP, I've not got one of those drky540sx things either, but - 3.8? Crikey, that's impressive.
On my recent jaunt I averaged 4.8l/100kms over 2,500 kms, with a best of 4.33.

Driven/ridden in a similar manner...

XJR1300 - 7.2 l/100km - 1 up
Hyundai Getz 1600 - 7.2l/100km - 2 in
FZ1 - 6.7l/100km - 1 up

the car wins, but who gives a shit!

think the main was 55 the largest in the kit, exhaust is pretty straight through heaps more bottom & mid range power for $75 USD just hoping it doesnt affect fuel range of my 19l tank to much.

I don't care. I fill it up....when it hits reserve, I fill it again. If it's close to pay day, I ride the push bike....or steal the lawn mower gas.

I,m amazed your xt660 does 23/24 km/L have you altered your bike to do this, mine is standard and only gets 18km/L if I,m lucky when I,m having fun on it it is as low a 15kms/L .
I recently put a 16 tooth on the front its a much better bike to ride on the road now and maybe I will join the 20kms /L ???????

been fiddled with a tad....
the mods that would help fuel mileage...
MM high 2 into 1 pipe..
2 stage K&N air filter..
Air box snorkle removed...
O2 senceor set at 16... 10/12 is standard..
TPS set at 12....
Kev fuel mod... Is a adjustable nob to add resisstance across the
air box O2 sencor..to trick it into thinking the air
temp is hotter or colder than it is...

What Yamaha's book of words don't tell the home fidder..

both the O2 & TPS can be adjusted though the insterment panel...
& theres also a rev counter in there for setting idle...

Key off... hold both buttons down... turn key on..keep holding both buttons down
till the adjustment mode comes up.... " The rev counter only works in adjustment mode"
turn key off to exit adjustment mode.... "new setting will remain"....
theres also a lot of error codes in there to let you know is there a prob
with any of the injection componets....

Try here http://www.xt660.com/site/node/78

It has a 22.5L Gilimoto tank..gives just over 500kms..

GS Adventure has been getting more and more economical as I run it in... only got 48,000km on it so far. Usually between 5-5.5L /100km. Tootling along as part of a group on Sunday I had it as low as 4.6L /100km. Still had all the luggage on etc.

Thanks for the info .
can you do the computor adjustment you mentioned with out messing the exhaust system and airbox or maybe just the airbox i don,t want to get to involved with spending to much on this bike then turn around and sell it , sometimes its cheaper to put alittle more $ in the tank

just air box mods give 4hp..
just removeing the snorkle is worth 0.5 hp...
with out putting it on a dyno to know for sure...
My bike should be 12hp up on standard &
the surgeing has been reduced by 80/90%...

What mods give what amount of hp for the XT

The Vee has averaged 6.3L/100km over the 8k I've had it (http://www.fuelly.com/driver/banditrider/dl1000). Changed the pipes a wee while ago and I may (might be too soon to say for sure) be getting slightly better. It definitely likes the go juice if given a workout.

The big fat Connie kicks the DL's butt (http://www.fuelly.com/driver/banditrider/concours-zg1400)!

I'm pretty impressed with the economy of the 690, considering it has twice the power at the wheel compared to my previous XR650L...and still can does regularly 20K/litre (the XR did 15K/l) worst I've done is 16K/litre...and can eek out to 21K/litre when slabbing it.

I seem to get around 22 km/l on my 2011 690 in all sorts of riding except really slow grovelling. Better than my DRZ400 was. And I'm taking account of speedo error too by checking against GPS. I don't know how KTM managed to make it so frugal. Impressive and useful considering how small the tank is.

yes...mine also did that originally. I forget to mention that I've now had the akra race map loaded, and opened the air box, and have the leo vince muffler.

When I changed the muffler, the bike worked ok but would stall around or just off idle and was just to lean. Once the map was installed (just paid for an hours labour for the shop to install it) it hasn't done it since. The diffence in economy is just that extra richening from the new map. ITs a good upgrade for sure.

I don't think I can share that much in an open forum, if everyone knew the secret, then its not really a secret...but maybe you need to share your tips and technique for regularly breaking chains - that takes some special riding for sure :gob: maybe the two are related...?
