Diecast Legends is a UK firm selling diecast models, they have published a ranking of models by sales in 2011. Most relate to racing, some are cars, but motorcycles feature large. The results struck me as amazing, not least for the omissions.
To avoid the dreaded OOS in most cases I will omit all detail but the name of the rider with which the various models are associated. Cars are excluded.

Don't tell Casey. He's a little...sensitive about things like that. :brick:

Rossi is the man! If he had bigger boobs and no facial hair I'd shag him

Reckon he's probably happy enough with a more self made miniature.
Who's this Rossi bloke that seems to be so popular all of a sudden

He's busy polishing the world champion trophy anyway.

Why? I truely believe that he would have had a very bright future ahead of him in MotoGP....

With his gorgeous wife counting his millions. Doubt he'll be too concerned eh!!

If that were the case, his name would appear more than once in the top 50.
He is at #1 on diecast model list (not a great acheivement granted) because of his untimely death.

Exactly. That's to be expected though. He is presumably there just the once because there is just the one model available. (Yet?)

Absolutely its to be expected...
If Mick Doohan were to die next week, his name would appear on the list quicker than Rossi can say ''when will I ever win again''.
Barry Sheene still makes the list...

I would say that while Stoner obviously wants people to appreciate his talents and skill on the bikes (instead of always saying he's had the fastest bike), he couldn't really give a flying fuck what people actually think of him. He strikes me as the complete opposite of Rossi who wants everyone to love him. Stoner just wants to be left alone to do his thing then fuck off. Nothing wrong with that in my eyes.

Funny, since you mention it, I would say that Casey pretends not to give a flying fuck about what people think of him but is actually quite sensitive to criticism and bears grudges about it long past their use by date. What do I base this on?
There was a 2Wheels article a year or 2 ago by a journalist who was a Ducati press officer for a time. It was a pretty positive article on the whole, but I suspect he's not on Casey's Christmas list. Casey resented the fact that this journalist had written that he fell off a lot in 2006 and told him so. Casey actually did fall off a lot (22 times?) in 2006 and it would be a negligent journalist who pretended otherwise.
Then there was his over-the-top criticism of Mika Kallio in 2010 after Kallio followed him in practice. "Kallio's always following me. He resents the fact that I can ride the bike much faster than he can. He's had it in for me ever since" Of course he does, Casey, but for Christ's sake move on. Having the slower riders follow you in practice comes with being the best rider in the world. It's not as if they can actually match your pace.
Some of what he's said since winning the championship has sounded a bit like Father Ted Crilly when he won the Best Priest in Ireland award. ("I'd just like to talk about all the people who fecked me off in the last 30 years. ...Where are you now, Father Seamus O'Seamus?")
That last one might be a bit unfair!
Anyway, that's my impression, for what it's worth. I have a very high opinion of Casey generally. He's obviously the best rider around at the moment (and with Lorenzo, Pedrosa and Rossi in the field, that's saying something). I like it that he says what he thinks, though sometime what he thinks irritates me. He's clearly not a manipulator of people (well, if he is he's not very good at it). I don't mind at all that he's a basically shy person who finds public attention difficult to handle. I see no evidence that he's dishonest or devious.

Think you've hit the nail of the head there. You've also gotta remember...a lot of things said a couple or a few years ago...he was still a kid! To me...none of that matter anyway. Doohan was a moaning old bitch most of the time too...and he was THE man.

None of it actually matters to me all that much either. (I just like stirring you up.) These guys are athletes at the top of their game with levels of courage, skill and determination the rest of us can only wonder at. It's a bit much to expect them to be well-rounded, charming, perfectly behaved human beings as well.

There is another facet to this. It is of course a UK company That sells primarily to Europe, European fans ( and there's a lot of them) support European riders, for the most
part, ergo every rider in the top sellers list is European.
If you guys were inclined to buy a statuette of a rugby player, I'm guessing most of you would buy a little pewter Dan Carter rather than a Little Johny Wilkinson, even
though Johny is probably the better player :chase: :dodge:

Casey fans will be pleased to note there is a #27 Repsol replica in the works. Maybe he'll feature on the list next year?
I'd quite like a set of the GP bikes on my desk, one each Honda, Yamaha, and Ducati, but the Minichamps models are a bit too expensive to be an impulse purchase.

Why? I truely believe that he would have had a very bright future ahead of him in MotoGP....
I am a fan of Marco's, and was gutted by his death. In my opinion I'm certain he would've been a future MotoGP champ. And that's why he made that list, because a lot of other people recognised his talent. It's not because he died that he made that list, it's because a future star has been lost. If he hadn't died, I'm sure people would've still bought his model, but not in the numbers to outrank Rossi, 9 times world champ...
