Last weekend we set out a new ride set down for next Sunday 4th March. It links the south end of Boon rock Station with Papanui Station and Best's Farm. Virgin Territory and some great riding. This is going to be a Charity ride for the local Ohariu Valley Hall and were excited about it. The southern part of the loop encompasses familiar territory used on the Horowhenua club Ohariu trail ride and all up we figure about 40km per loop. We have a few optional 'A' hill climbs for those disposed to such activity and a couple of bogs and razorback ridge rides to keep you alert. Our best ride so far I reckon. Organised by the Kapi Mana Motorcycle Club.

Hi Finn, so where's the carpark? What's the start time & how 'Justin set this out' are the A sections?

The track uses part of the Ohariu Trail ride track to the south.
We go in from Boon Rock Road (turn right at the Ohariu cross roads and a couple of K's up the road) Theres gonna be a ton of parking.
We set the track out with the farmers on quads (I was on the KLX) Karl checked out the 'A' sections - one is a hill we reckon no one will get up (challenge = yes)
Start time is the usual 8:30 to 10:00 am 4th March

hmm, so bring my Trials bike along again & do the 2nd loop on it for trying out the hills. Last Jvill ride there was a couple that would have been a real drag on the dirtbike & I'm glad I didn't try them on it. The trials bike was ok though.

Actually no 40k too far for fun unless I can shortcut after the hill.

hmm, looks like all loops at far end of track, no thanks.

I'm sure someone will staple an orange arrow behind a bush to guide us.

It should be easy enough to find - Go to the Ohariu crossroads and turn right (from the Johnsonville end) and travel a km or so north then turn left down Boom rock road for 157m and on your left you will be there. Didn't seem to be any one missing from our last ride at Humes farm so our arrows seem to work.

We won't risk Ashurst with rain.
This particular ride we attempted last year, and they didn't cancel it till 9am so we were pretty much there when it was published to be cancelled and people stopped us on the road, as they had gotten TO the event without any cancellation. Only to be told on arrival if was off.
They didn't get it onto Silver Bullet till after we were told by friendly riders.

Seeing as they don't cancel till so late and it's so far up, we won't risk the drive again if there is any rough weather. Last year's weather wasn't anywhere near as bad as this years!

neither did we.

although my mates neighbor came back sunday afternoon with a very muddy bike so unless he had a local ride i think it must have been on.

We'll probably do Linton this weekend :-)

I'd like to do Rangiwahia, but when there is a closer ride, it seems like so far to go haha
Also, Linton is new and shiny so worth checking it out I reckon!

Theres also the Rathkeale College Trail Ride in the Wairarapa.

My mate wants to go to that, good rocky hill country.

Can't be pissing down on both sides so we might just pick the driest.

Yeah I am keen to try Linton as the Tora one is rocky, from memory some is good, some is boring.
