Question about bike rego

Can you put rego on hold if it is still current? Ie, say you have still one or two mnths left? And if so, will you loose the reminder once you bring the rego off hold?

Eg. i still have one mnths reg left and I am going away overseas for six mnths. Could I put it on hold then when I get back rego it again without loosing the already paid mnths rego?

Is this "No" to can't put it on hold or "No" I can't save the extra mnths rego I have prepaid? Seems silly because if i am away and can't be here physically to pay for new reg and can't put existing on hold, then I have to pay the six mnths worth of reg that I will be away for and i could have put it on hold. :facepalm:

Now that makes more sense. So I could prefill the form and take it in and they will put the rego on hold from the day it expires for what ever time I specify?

The options:
#1. Put it on hold when it runs out while you are overseas. Easy to do online. If you can't do it then someone else can all they need is your plate number.
#2. Do nothing and backpay the rego to when it ran out once your back.
#3. Do nothing and put it on hold when you get back. I believe minimum period is 3 months could be shorter if you use a special form. It means you won't backpay anything but you could be unlicensed for awhile!

I would rather put it on hold before I go or online. Don't really want to be back paying six mnths especially if I ain't going to be here to enjoy the bike.

The hold starts from the date your exiting licence expires, and can not be backdated. You can put it on hold before it expires, but the existing licence can't be credited forward when you re-licence. Doing it online is easy, but then so is the paper form.
