View Full Version : Neutral light and high beam light not working (Suzuki TS185)

None of the lights on my dashboard are registering except for the turn light. The high beam works fine but its not showing up on the dashboard, and even when I put my bike in neutral, the neutral light isn't showing up. All the other lights are working fine (high beam, low beam, turn signal, indicators, brakes) except for the two on the dashboard.

Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Either a connector has come lose or a fuse has blown.

yes most like a wire has worked its self loose from its connection, sometimes water can help cause this.

I'll have a look, I'm wouldn't have any idea how water would of contributed, I always keep my motorcycle in a fairly dry garage but anything is possible. I'm going to open it up tomorrow, however its going to be my first time opening it up and looking at it. My dad is fairly experienced with electronics, but still, it could be a disaster. Its probably not that big of a problem in reality but still I would rather be well informed and cautious before doing anything potentially stupid.

Any advice, tips or instructions anyone would like to give me regarding opening up a dashboard? I'm all ears.

Try play with the plug(s) going to the dash first.
If you take it apart and are unsure, take pics of everything and you'll have a reference.
They are usually fairly simple to take apart and put together, should be 2 or 3 mounting screws/nuts and disconnect the speedo cable, then un plug the dash, remove and hit with a hammer.

So I opened up the dashboard (finally after some tinkering - I removed the little ring that sits around the ignition and the rubber coverings on the dashboard which where hiding the screws to undo it) and found that the neutral light was blown (My older sister who helped me reckoned it had short circuited the high beam light as well). So now I'm looking for some replacement bulbs. The bulb that was working (which I guess is the best out of the bunch) is a Kelly 12V3W, the highbeam bulb was a Stanley 12V3.4W, the neutral bulb was a Narva 12V2W K6. The problem is I have no idea where to get replacements from.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Take the bulb down to your bike shope its a fairly standard bulb, some are plug in and some are bayonet fittings

maybe you're in low beam and in gear?

Already checked that before opening up the dashboard.
