What is the best solution for using in the petrol cap key hole when it becomes hard to open ?
Are 3 in 1 oil or CRC ok to use?

New BIKE ...
Failing that, squirt a little CRC into the keyhole. Let it soak a bit, and then repeat trying the key ... gently.

Try CRC maybe. Or I like the spray cans of silicone lube (like CRC 808 Silicone Spray) - they are dry (so don't collect gunk) and can work well in locks. I use 'em on padlocks a lot.

Silicone spray would work. It is expensive ... but has many uses around the house and on the bike.

It probably is, as it was bought by a friend who visited from the HB last weekend :msn-wink:

It has a long red tube so I will try it first and then the graphite if it doesn't work.
Thanks for all the tips :niceone:

All of you who said "CRC" are worngA. All CRC products (apart from their chemical handbook) are crap. Use WD40.

Wrong?
Thats a bit harsh. I have WD40 on the shelf and even I wouldn't say that.
CRC 556 is fantastic on fishing gear where WD40 does not have enough resistance to corrosion.
CRC 808 is fantastic for long lasting slip (door hinges etc)
WD40 is good for high pressure and heavy lubrication setups.
Different tools different jobs. I suppose you use a Phillips on Pozi-drive screws too.
Fact of the matter is good old carbon/graphite is best for this application as its an old lock, and locks need friction to work. So loading it up with liquid is not a recommendation.

Go to the ware whare and it's called "tire shine" or something like that. Spray a bit onto your finger and if it comes out clear and greasy then it's silicone spray. It's quite cheap.
