Rode one in the weekend....
Smooth, sublime, loads of usable power, loved it.
how have you n00bs found FI on dirt bikes?
this thing started first kick too

the fuel injected 450's are really good, heap of useable power, infact the biggest mod we do the the KX450F is to take some mid range power out of them to make them smoother,
to put it in perspective, the CRF450 got second last in the MXA 450 Shootout, behind everything except the KTM350

The CRF 450 was the bike to beat yesterday at Pateotanga.
Mind you The way BT was hauling he would have won on anything.

So what do shoot outs tell us? Wasn't the KTM350 the world champ bike lol?

Love the way "jetting" my bike is, at the very worst, starting it and leaving it to idle for a minute. However, with the smarts of FI comes complexity and with complexity comes cost, like the $900 it recently stung me for a new fuel pump.

Yeah the new pump is upgraded, so no doubt a few of them have gone south.
Just in case flyingcr is reading, the issue was surging under part-throttle and bogging a bit at low revs (like a badly jetted bike ha ha). The fault code indicated fluctuating fuel pressure.

Hmmm, now I'm thinking the useless prick mechanic at my dealer ripped me off, if the filter swap fixed cr's....

Did you get the old pump back i would have would be easy enough to check if you did also by getting it back you know it was replaced. We always had replaced part available for customers to see or keep if they really wanted to.

I am absolutely loving my CRF450. I would never go back to a shitty 2T after riding the injected beast that I now own. Smoothy and useable power, really is doesn't get much better.

That's interesting. Mate was riding with a guy on SX350 last week - said he was on second his fuel pump. Was told - "water damage". Sounded sus to me, more like an excuse for problem part (first model bugs).

Water damage?? Hmmm.... yeah the replacement is an upgrade with a different part number, so me thinks they already lost enough money on factory recalls (I've had 3) and are just hedging bets on the pump.
I did get the knackered pump back, I don't know if I could bench test it though (really can't be arsed refitting it)

The biggest problem with the FI bikes is the fuel in NZ. Most of the filters glog causing problems. If i owned one id be filtering all my fuel before it went in the tank.
2011 CRF450 did make the least peak power, but i am sure it had the most usable power and was one of the fastest in a straight line and 3rd or 4th gear roll on was better.

Attach some wires odds are its only going to need 12 volts it'll either run or it wont failing that if it don't run out of shear interest id pull it apart to see what is damaged.

Nah it was fluctuating fuel pressure, the pump worked and the bike ran, but "apparently" the pump wasn't maintaining the correct fuel pressure. Which I assume would need something that could test the pressure at the output.

clamp a pressure gauge to the out let on a hose it will bounce the needle if it fluctuating wouldn't need to be a huge gauge 80-100 psi would do

I did ages ago, which I'd forgotten about. Ran fine once I'd put fuel back in, but perhaps it had been damaged.

Yeah and realistically there aren't a lot of people that can utililze the power of a 450 so a few HP down on the other isn't going to be noticed at all. It comes down to how the bike handles and gets the power to the ground. Same old story about 450 vs the 500 2T.

Totally agree,
When you can't deal with the big 450 power , repower with a 500 2T ...
Works every time , ......Magic

I've told you all before, the future is the fecking 3 stroke and as soon as I can figure out how to invent it, I'm going to be stinking bloody rich.

They're called 300 two strokes.
GasGas, KTM, Husky and TM.
Crawl like a trials bike or rip like a mx bike, tune it to do whatever you want it to do.
