It's gorgeous innit!!??
The 92 RS250 they have (same as the one I owned) suprised me. It is rough...but they only want $6800.00 NZ for it. Thought it'd be way more than that.
I'd quite like to get it and restore it and place it in the lounge!!

I remember it. Just. I've raced against him on KR1's I think. He was still fast as when he was older.

There's still footage of those races around, NZSBK are doing a run this year on historical/hysterical moments at the Cem Cct as a build up to the 60th so keep your eyes peeled I'm sure this will be one of them.

One of the best races I ever watched there was Simon Turner on his RS250 going hammer and tongs with the late great Robert Holden on his 916 Superbike. Was an awesome race I reckon!!!

Anyone that's ridden to the level he has is fast until the day they die mate.
First road race I ever did as a yoof was at Gracefield in Lower Hutt. I was 18 at the time I think. Raced my road bike, an 83 GPZ1100.
Scared the living fucking shit out of me. I was being helped by Dennis Newton, and after the first practice session told him I'd just been carved up by an old geezer on a Ducati 900SS.
He said to me "Don't beat yaself up too badly. Nothing wrong with being dusted of by Hugh Anderson".

I think it was the 89 - 90 season. Scotty was the first to go round the track in a sub min lap with a 0.59.???? pretty high. It was indeed a great meeting. I was on my Honda 455 in F2.

I could be wrong here (had more than a few beers since the 80's) but i have a feeling it was 86 and he was the first to break the 50 sec barrier. I kinda remember cause I managed just under 60 sec in practice then the old tz shit itself and I didn't get to race. It was still an outstanding meeting and I can still remember tjhe sight and sounds of that RS in full flight..Spectacular

Haha! Yeah it was86/ 87 season and remember when we were at Ruapuna that same year and Scotty let a very much younger Aaron Slight have a ride on it and then quickly flagged him from the circuit when he started to go too fast on it LOL,Those were the days!!!

Stephen,
Price for the NSF250R is 1,800,000 Japanese Yen. Price to crate and ship
the bike to you will cost approx 120,000 Japanese Yen.
Thanks
Rick
Works out to about $29,000.00 not bad for a 2012 moto3 bike

Yep Scotty had the FZ750 at Wanganui in 1985 and the RS500 the following year in 1986 is how I remember it. On the FZ I couldn't believe the lean angle he took it over to on that next right hander up from the Robert Holden corner. The RS I remember him not doing that flash early on (for him) but he quickly figured he needed a gearing change and the rest is history - race wins, lap record.
Its mentioned here http://www.cemeterycircuit.co.nz/index.php?page=history
Here's an extract from that page:
"In 1986 Richard Scott won on the RS500 Grand Prix Honda to be the first local rider in 30 years to win a feature race. He also became the first rider to lap the track in under 50 seconds. Some kerbing realignment after Scott’s record lap added maybe a second or two to lap times but for all that his time of 49.91secs remained unbeaten for an incredible twenty four years. Superbiker’s Daniel Stauffer of Australia (Yamaha) and New Zealand’s Nick Cole (Kawasaki) were both accredited the new lap record of 49.334secs in 2010."
Remember the RS500 was basically the production racer version, Freddie Spencer won titles on the NS500 and by the time Scotty was winning on the RS Freddie and co already had the V4 NSR500 to race. What would an NS or NSR have gone like at Wanganui? Possibly the RS would have been better suited anyway as the hard out grand prix bikes would have felt a bit constrained around the street circuit.

Yep 1985 was the year he ran the Matich Racing FZR Superbike in the Countrywide Series running number R, not a great series for him starting with pulling out of rnd1 at Hamilton due to track concerns then he had engine issues throughout the rest. In the Wynns series that followed they eventually ran out of spares so he rode the Hawera Yamaha TZ 750 at the final round at Pukee. 1st time on one and got quicker each lap eventually winning the final race and breaking the lap record. Heres F1 R3 from Wanganui 1985, Slight on a production FZR 750 had only been racing for 18 or so months, gotta love Peter Cliffords commentator predictions of his immenient demise throughout the race.

Gregory Yamaha's bikes always seemed to be well tuned! Not saying (obviously) he didn't ride 'em better than everyone else though.
