I know there are those here who have access to the owners details via the rego (can't get it in post shop anymore from memory), I have a rego I would like to get checked... DZU832. Happy to disclose the story, but via PM...not communally.

Cheers

NZTA still sell owners details. You need to find someone with a bit of paper called a "241" exemption. All petrol companies, financial service providers have one as well as hundreds of other people. http://www.dia.govt.nz/MSOS118/On-Line/NZGazette.nsf/vNoticeCategory!OpenView&Start=15&Count=30&Expand=29.1#29.1

Alternatively you can fill out the MR31 form on the NZTA website. It cost $15 and you have to allege that they caused you a loss of some kind to get the owners details.

For example say they backed into you etc.

That'll do. I was under the assumption that thanks to the law change last year they couldn't give them to you at all. Didn't realise there was an exemption. Will follow that up.

MR31 is no longer used anywhere.

I work for one of the companies that does this kinda stuff, your only avenue is through the police. I did get your PM, and Id love to help, but thats the most I can do I'm sorry. Its times like this I'd love to watch them get their asses draagged over the coals, but it sucks I can't help more :(

Joe public can't do it.
Anyone with the right special pass can still access your details.
Rocket science. This isn't.

Yes they can.

They follow the link to the MR31. Then Allege loss or damage, and pay $15.

The difference is its more expensive, and the NZTA have cut the AA, NZPost etc off.

Otherwise it seems no change.
