Yay! Hope the weather plays the game. Best we look into what we can eat/what we want to eat/where we get it from etc.

Might have a bit of a reccy this coming weekend. Some one want to do the actual buying/collecting of funds etc, 'cos I will be simply attending  :wari:

Just for a change :2thumbsup

There will be NO CAR this time, so we all have to carry our own stuff

Can anyone tell I am happy to be relieved of my responsibilities for a change :innocent:

BUT
I won't be able to get time off the course (it's too fast paced for me to simply miss a class)
So I will have to leave after midday and meet you at the base camp that evening

Might have a bit of a reccy this coming weekend.

Did Waipoua forest weekend just been (escorting my English visitors) and just after Kaihu as you go up into the hills there is about 2k's of really shite metal road where they have ripped it up for whatever reason.

Otherwise apart from 800metres of nicely compacted gravel on the twin bridges road (Kaikohe side) it was all pretty amazing as usual :)

Oh and according to the lovely couple who had broken down on there boulevard at the big tree, there is about 800 metres of really bad road with roadworks they are doing on the road that leads to Rawene where you catch the ferry.

I have the same prob as the other ART folks... and it IS all about me because I'm very very selfish.

However, if it's the weekend of the 20th - 22nd I can guarantee the Saturday, probably do the Friday, might be there on Sunday. But with ART and the V8s it's gonna count a lot of people out. Luckily I can't stand any of them, so it'll work out nicely!

If it ends up being another weekend I'd prefer the following one as well. Also (just throwing it out there) Mondays are heaps easier to take off than Fridays for me. Just saying.

On the money/food thing?...there are two Fish and Chips shops real handy to the Base Camp.
And a great Supermarket in Ruakaka.
We have a B-B-Q in the Caravan but its a small one...nothing like a rotation meal eh?...

I've decided I won't be on this one, even with the later dates now confirmed, as I can pretty much guarantee that work will either still be going crazy (packing up all the gear after the bloody V8's), or, I'll be recovering from the pack-up. Basically we've got 2 weeks after the event (which is on the 20th to the 22nd of April) to clear all of our fencing from the track site or we get fined big bucks. So you can imagine, 8 weeks to put it all out, 2 weeks to pack it all up, it's going to be pandemonium... Even if we do get it all packed up within the 2 weeks, I'm gonna be a walking zombie from putting in freaking huge hours - if it's anything like last year I'll be doing easily 100 hours a week right up to the last day.

Suffice to say, I will be in need of a weekend off (at least) after the madness, and don't think a big ride (however cool I know it will be!) would be a good idea for me at that stage.

Plus I've kinda dedicated myself to saving some money for a little 'trip' later on in the year...

Sorry guys, I'm sure you'll still have a blast without me!

The Redwoods is epic. Did ya shuttle? Love riding there.

Let me know when your up for a new bike and I will hook you up.

Yeah man, Redwoods are great! No shuttle, the exercise part is actually riding up the hills :)

LOL with the amount this current bike cost, It will be lasting me a fair while before I consider a new one.

Thats a real shame Scott, but completely understandable, the buck is where it all stops these days.

I reckon that talking about MTB on a motorcycling forum counts as 'crap' on this thread.....:bash: I may think this way simply because I don't have one because I'm too poor and would have a cardiac arrest if I pedalled anything, but who can say....

Scott, bummer man but totally understandable. I won't give you any shit because you'll be more disappointed then me for sure. Way to play a sensible card bro. If I could do that I would probably have food and tobacco the day before payday but alas.....

Yup. I've started a new thread for those types of posts here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/147702-Learner-Three-Day-North-Ride-(4th-6th-May)-Unofficial-Discussion-Thread?p=1130279352#post1130279352. It explains why I've done it in the first post - the social group discussion method just don't do it for me and the willpower required to not post off topic shit on this thread is exhausting..... Oh, and it's about attracting more people as well. If people disagree with what I've done then either pop round and beat me to death with a tyre iron, or just tell me and I'll take the thread down.

Maha, I await your thumbs up or down since this is your gig and I don't wanna overstep my remit or start something connected to your ride that you aren't comfortable and happy with.

Don't stay away Jo - ya live and learn and now you know not to do that, so it's all good.

It would seem that (without telling me) the thread got moved from Rant and Rave where I started it into Meetings and Events. So I'm thinking it's a combination of location and quoting issues that got it binned. Would be nice to be told these things, but I guess the mods have a big job trying to keep track of everything and keep it tidy, so the path of least resistance makes some sense. Anyway, I'm toying with asking for it to be reinstated to R&R with the quote issue solved. I'll let yous fullas know what they say.

once upon a time.....

two strangers thought about gathering other strangers around them to ride the countryside on their steel horses.
the two strangers had big horses, and the other strangers came along on something more like ponies with weird yellow squares marked with an L attached the ponies backsides.

many rides together, much ale was consumed and the riders are no longer strangers, some even had shed the yellow squares marked with an L. they have passed or are in the process of passing the last epreuves to finally be allowed themselves the big horses.

so this might be the first ride for the L strangers as fully certified Riders on the F Plate.

it could be something of a celebratory ride?

I tried but somewhat predictably the answer was no - the thread remains in PD. I got great explanations from two mods and while I won't detail what they said I am pleased they took the time to explain and I understand the whole process a lot better. It certainly wasn't done arbitrarily or without an effort to solve the problem first. So there ya go.

Lesson here is that you can start a thread about the colour of orange juice in R&R if you want to, but if the posts aren't anything to do with orange juice and also contain embedded quoted images of things that aren't even fruit, you're gonna get binned.

To the person who took it upon themselves to complain to the mods about our little thread, which started the PD process, I hope you get a genital related disease in your eyes.

If you're all serious there's going to be a lot of pressure on me to actually pass =/

I tried selling my FXR and upgrading to a 250. Didn't sell though. Some of you may have noticed a rattly sound coming from my bike on the taupo ride. Got that fixed. It was part of the baffles. I suppose I'll put a bit of money into properly servicing my FXR (4000km and 8000km services haven't been done) and hold onto it till it's time to buy a six hundy (or similar).
