I always seem to only come onto KB these days after another move and here I am again! I think the last time I signed in was just after I moved to CHCH, but I'm in Wellington now, and almost utterly friendless, haha. So who's rocking in Wellington these days? Anyone with any good ideas of fun things to do down here? -- keeping in mind I'm still a broke student with only feet and small change for transport.
Also, student = Vic Kelburn, anyone else a student there?

Great choice for "a broke student with only feet and small change for transport", move to a city that is too mean to prove discounted transport for students. You will have a bike soon, or be really fit. Still I guess if you are the only student at Vic Kelburn there isn't much point providing transport
Fun things to do? enjoy the weather, a nice refreshing stroll around the wharf in a southerly does wonders. Or you could hit the high spots, the three bike shops in the CBD, crasher might even provide coffee if you make it that far, you might have to buy a bike though.
Welcome and enjoy your stay.

Depends what you are into doing. Plenty to do here, do you have a bike?

Let's go with me just getting fit for the reason that follows! The bus service is good here, though, even if it is pricey. I transferred from Canterbury Uni, and CHCH doesn't provide discounts for students there, either, so it's not a point of contention for me :)

I have a bike at my parents' place, but I'm far from confident on it even on quiet roads! It doesn't help that the last time I did go for a ride, I bailed pretty nastily on a gravel road in the middle of the country - it really damaged my confidence, as it took a good half hour to just stop shaking and get the bike upright again... nothing broken - just badly bruised - but nobody knew where I was, so haven't been keen to ride again by myself, and I have no-one to ride with there. Still like bikes, and am happy being pillion, but not so sure I'm ready to get back on it alone yet.

welcome to wellington, world's largest small town.
I'm a student on the kelburn campus
spend most of my time in cotton building, given that that's where all the engineering stuff is
doing honours this year.
might I ask what you're studying?

get a cheap downhill bike, (stp 1 or 2)
go to karitane to the dirt jumps up by the truby king home, and learn to dirt jump. you'll meet so many good cunts and have a bit of fun while doing so.

When you get your bike, look up when ProRider are doing a course at Manfeild.
Bring it up, and you will get your confidence right back. Honest.
Just ask the last course... on day 2 we did many k's on gravel just to show how much they had learnt.
Yes the next safe rider course is some way off, but will give you time to save for it.

Aaa! Engineering students! Something familiar! I lived with a bunch of Eng students at UC, but I am a Psychology/Education student - about to switch from a BA in Education (not to be confused with a Bachelor of Education) to a BSc double major in Psyc and Educ - so I'm all over the show at Uni. Maclaurin, Student Union, New Kirk... Good thing I have a good sense of direction, or I'd have been hopelessly lost all week.

Can I just watch first, and then decide if I want to risk my neck? :P

You need say no more. Burlesque? WHERE DO I SIGN?! :D

That might be a good idea. I'll need to do something about the battery in my bike first though, as it's as dead as dead can get (and find somewhere to store the bike - I'm currently living with a friend of a friend, who has no real space for anything, up to and including me: it's a blessing she and I hit it off, or we'd hate each other already). Thanks :)

awesome..
I'm on campus pretty much every day of the week
we should meet for coffee or something sometime, pm?
there's a huge crew of us hang out in the second floor cottong corridor
it's unmissable, there are three couches, and they're usually covered in students.
mostly male, but engineering is always a sausagefest.

Sounds good to me. I have to head up to CO level 3 at some point soon anyway, I need to find out when my statistics lab is.

There's a dairy at the bottom of this road, and they sell Reese's Peanut Butter Cups... My absolute favourite chocolate, but so hard to find in Hamilton and Christchurch, and non-existant in Taumarunui! Best discovery ever :)

Just down the road from me.
I am tied into the Carousel Cabaret Burlesque show that's on every month.
Great fun.
There is also Burlesque Rocks http://www.eventfinder.co.nz/2012/burlesque-rocks/wellington coming up, and MisRed's event http://www.facebook.com/events/335971073110689/
And the outdoor circus on down on the waterfront atm.
