You mean Harleys mate,

You probably had some mud/dirt caked onto the midpipe, I wouldnt be overly worried about it, if it gets worse remove the tank and make sure there are no wires or cables pinched against the head or cylinders (just a matter of taking the pillion seat off, pulling the red knob and removing the riders seat and one bolt (14mm off the top of my head).
Have a peer inside the fairings as well to make sure they havnt been pressed against the pipe, could be burning paint,
Even a bit of leaked oil.

Not to mention things they have in the rain ... in Hamilton ... (best avoid that place)

Yeah. Fuck off. I live here! 'smine, see ALL MINE MINE MINE!! :Pokey:

Oops...er..ahhhehehe. Sorry. :o

The last time I smelled something kinda "burny" from my bike, it turned out to be one of the pair of Stebel magnums I had fitted. The bracket had broken and the horn had fallen onto the exhaust pipe, way down there on the inside of the fairing where you couldn't see it. Horn was totally fucked by the time we found it...

It sounds like you need to change your indicator fluid, water must have got in there and contaminated it.

For the love of god dont buy a Hyo 650. Half the power of modern 600 sports bikes, and almost identical to the Hyo250. And increased rego costs as it is over 600cc. I cant think of a single reason why someone would buy one over the competition.
Dont get me wrong, I think Hyosung make a good bike, but they dont offer anything decent over 250.

You may have done what I did, which was ride through some roadworks and get a splotch of tarry asphalt shit splattered on the headers. Stank to high hell and was a prick of a thing to clean off.

Out of curiosity, how far along the rev range is 8-9 grand on a 250 Hyosung?

Hyosung doesn't have a powerband, it has a flat spot that tries to be a powerband though

I broke my powerband once... my muffler bearing had been making a funny noise but I put off replacing it and it seized up while I was riding.

If it was a low flat spot ... there's your problem ... as I said. Water quality in Hamilton is dodgy at best. (even the rain)

I had steam coming off the front this morning, somewhere near the radiator. Had me a bit worried seeing as it smelt a little like coolant.
but the coolant levels havent changed

You own a Hyobag and you thought you'd get a sensible answer here.......... You're a funny guy.
But as it happens my R1 smells "wrong" a day after Iv'e ridden it in the rain. It's just what dry road film smells like when it's hot.
Anyhow why are you concerned? It is only a Hyobag afterall!

Check battery fluid level if it's a wet cell battery. I smelt a sulphurous smell once, I thought it was just how that groady old town I was stopped at smelt, 30 minutes later I found out it was my battery boiling dry, I found out because it killed 1 coil in the process :-(

Check the exhaust for things stuck to it, like, mud, tar, rubber off your boot heels (my old XV250 was a good one for that).

Check for small oil leaks from any seals/gaskets.

Check for electrical connections which might be getting melted (poor connection = increased resistance = heat).

What does it smell like? Oil? Rubber? Something else?

I cleaned my header with WD-40 once.
Had a lovely burning smell wafting around after it warmed up and a 10 min ride had it smoking.

As above, if you have the stock hyo battery, that coukd be the issue, otherwise im thinking either your reg/rec or alomg those lines, get yourself a volt meter and test the battery eith the bike off, then turn the bike on and hold it at 5,000rpm and test again it should never drop below 12 and the voltage when at 5 should be 13+

sleemanj
8th March 2012, 23:12
should never drop below 12 and the voltage when at 5 should be 13+

I'd add that 13+ should actually be 13 to 14.something - if it manages 15+ volts then the regulator is failing.

It's stopped now...I did probably lube it a bit too much the night before and failed to get the excess off (thought it would like the extra lube) it's now stopped making the stupid burning smell.
Though looking underneath the fairing i've noticed a wire that looks like it should be plugged into something lol :( all the indicators and breaks etc work, might be the cable that makes things fail? haha

I really knew nothing about bikes before I got the hyo (still don't know f'all) but it's been a fun bike to learn on and it's now at 60k due to it being my only vehicle so it's done well.
Hopefully my next bike doesn't have any serious issues.
