Open-faced helmet visors?

For those who use an open faced helmet, and I'm one, at times, There seems to be two styles of visors. The classic type, deep flat visor, and the 'Jet fighter' styled visor, more rounded and not coming down over the face as far.



My helmet has the deeper flat visor, no fixed peak, and I find it the quietest helmet I've ever worn on my bike. ( windsheild fitted ). My previous open helmet had a fixed peak in place and it seemed to channel the wind flow across the visor mounts causing a lot of turbulance.

Do you have a preference?

And yes, I know I'm a hundred times more likely to rip my face off blah blah blah, using an open face helmet. :innocent::innocent: I dont wear my open face helmet all the time. My choice. :yes::yes:

My preference is no visor , set of chrome aviator googles, and a bandanna across the face.

I've worn my "Roof" open face helmet for years with the jetfighter style of visor, together with a face scarf - seems to work for me. I used to have an open face with goggles, but never actually seemed to put the goggles down :yes:

And yes, it won't be long untill we all get a lecture from the helmet police !!

On Sunday 29 April I was riding down SH17 on my way home when a car that I was following flicked a stone up ( closer to a bloody rock ) & fired it towards me, I was about 30m or so behind the car so I was in no way tailgating it & I was also in the centre of my lane at the time .

Had the visor been up I would now have a rather large stone embedded into the left side of my face, it impacted with enough force to push my head backwards & to the side a bit along with a rather large BANG, as a rule I ride around urban streets with the visor up & in 100km/h zones with it down .

After this had occurred I did think to myself what would it have been like had I been wearing a 1%'er lid & a bandanna or open face helmet with my face exposed :blink: I am sure it would have ended with a hospital stay .

Needless to say there is a chip in the visor which I may replace .

You don't by any chance wear glasses do you?
I do and have often wondered how goggles would work over glasses.

Nope; I've had lasik. I would suggest to anyone that corrective eye surgery has more value in life then a bike and if I had to choose between a bike or lasik, I'd pick lasik hands down.

I used to have glasses and could never wear anything but a normal visor helmet. Or very occasionally a skid lid if I'm riding very local on a sunny day.

I used to play hockey, and damaged my glasses constantly. I got contacts, but a hit into the wall could dislodge them. :argh:

Why not just buy a Shark evoline flip front helmet its open face or closed, very handy if you are riding through town and out in the country.
