How many times do I have to enter "a well know island" to be given "The answer given for the random question was incorrect." in this shitty KB search engine? It must be the worst search engine I have every had the displeasure of using.
for F. SAKE!

Was "a well know island" the question or the answer you were giving? However, once you are logged in I don't think the search engine requires any question or answer to proceed.

Since we are bitching about the search engine....
I hate not being able to search individual sections of the forum like we used to be able to. It's nice to be able to search only in the off topic or general bike section.

You can. Simply go to the forum you want to search and in the grey bar above the thread list you will see an option labled "search forum".

+1
I wanted to search specific related threads about belly pans in the Bike Mechanics/General Bodywork sub-section but the search engine will produce all kinds of threads that may just remotely contain the term 'pan' or 'belly' [e.g. "a frying pan full of belly pork"].
Would be nice to narrow the results list down to those from actual useful and relevant sub-sections.

You can? What am I missing here, I don't know what OP is talking about.
Advanced search -> Search single content type allows you to select specific forums, users, dates etc to limit your search by.

Or that.

It is paraphrasing the answer I was giving. The exact answer is ******* (not here for any phishing bot, device / whatever to find)
Yes I was logged out as I closed that specific tab of KB that I had logged in with. Guess that's another point (while I'm in the bitchin mood) why doesn't my login activate for all of the KB tabs I have open? I logged in after about the third KB tab then opened a few more and closed them...
Anyway, back to searching for a decent helmet cam.........

As said, refresh the tabs that don't have you logged in, after you have logged in.

I must have a bit of ging in me to to not think of that
I guess the thing is I have all these tabs open, opening more, closing some - sort of lose track of them and would probably forget to refresh before I end up logging myself out by closing the one that is logged in. It all seems too hard, should be auto.

Using the internet does require a measurable level of intelligence. You have my deepest sympathy...

Closing a tab won't log you out, but obviously if you hit log out, then yes, you'll be logged out. As long as at least one logged in tab (any tab) is kept active (ie, you don't get logged out due to inactivity) then you'll stay logged in.
What could be happening is that you close the active tabs (that perhaps you haven't clicked on for a while), then you go to an old tab, so you still haven't "refreshed" your status with the server, then try to click on something and you're logged out.
As for auto, can you imagine reading long posts in a thread and the page kept refreshing on you? Even worse for those on slow internet connections.

Haha, yeah, true.
IDo you know if there a way for users to control the time out setting? It seems to be much quocker than it used to be. (I've only recently got back on after not having an interent connection since last year)

Not aware of any user editable settings within your site options, however, the various browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera, Chrome etc) probably have some options for remembering your details, with varying levels of functionality.

Is there something wrong with ticking 'Remember me' when you first log in?

That's total bullshit, Virago. I meantasay, the fact that I can use the internet is complete proof that NO intelligence is required!

Personally I stay well clear of the KB search function. It's easier to go to google and use something like
'tt2000 site:kiwibiker.co.nz'
Which then pulls up a list of everything tt2000 related only on KB sorted by how many hits it has.
Course then I can modify it by adding keywords, +, -, AND OR's "*" etc
Nice and easy.

As always the Search box is a very general match any of these terms type search across everything on the entire site. If that's not what you want then be more specific.
Advanced Search -> Search Single Content Type
